http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/news/108 ... ds-to-liftAdelaide United defender Nigel Boogaard says his A-League club has run out of excuses, ahead of its match against Gold Coast United on Friday night.
The second-last Reds host bottom side Gold Coast with Boogaard imploring his team-mates to end the cheap talk.
"We really need the three points. There are no more excuses," Boogaard said. "We can't keep saying we need to win. We have to win.
"There is no doubt about it, we can't keep letting games go by."
Adelaide, touted pre-season as a title contender, has just two wins and 10 points to its name this season.
The Reds have scored the fewest goals of any club and with Gold Coast, conceded the most.
But Adelaide coach Rini Coolen hopes a return to his favoured 4-2-3-1 formation can spark a revival.
The Reds adopted that formation last start in a 1-1 away draw against Melbourne Victory which heartened Coolen.
"We paid a lot of attention on it and it worked out very well. That system suits us best," Coolen said.
"It makes things more clear for the players and it gives them, as well, a bit more freedom. "There were some very good signs last week.
"But most of all you have to win your games. We have to make some steps up the ladder.
"The ladder is very close and a few wins and you make some steps and we have to start doing that."
Coolen said the Reds would not underestimate Gold Coast, which has only won once this season.
"They are a very organised team with a lot of attacking players in transition," he said.
"They play pretty well but they are not in a fantastic position on the ladder, like us.
"So you always have to be careful about the strong side of the opponent."
Adelaide defender Milan Susak has been ruled out of the Hindmarsh Stadium fixture with a knee injury.

Ppl who slap the label of truth on the 1st thing they hear, do it out of ignorance, convenience or cant be bothered picking through a thin layer of falsehood to find the real truth, or possibly even another lie
