7 weeks in, Whats the best formation?
So we are 7 weeks into the season, Unfortunately we have just lost Slory to retirement and have had what is at best an indifferent start to the 2011/2012 campaign. But the season is long and there is still plenty of time to make an impact, especially as we are only 3 points off of second!
We have all seen a few variations of formations by Rini, some due to injury and some tactical, What do you guys think will serve AU the best and why? Here's my opinion
GK: Galekovic
RB: Dilevski CB: McKain and Susak LB: Cassio
RAM: Vidosic CM: Levchenko and Caravella LAM: Ramsey
ST: Djite and Van Dijk
Bench: Watson, Usucar Mullen and Birighitti
PLaying a 4-2-2-2 formation
I personally like Vidosic on the right, because it gets him in some space, to be creative, to cut in and out and from seeing him up close, direction to get to the by line and cause havoc!
I like Caravella in the centre because i think he will give the midfield some poise that seems to be lacking and is someone who can control the tempo of our game!
But this is just what I think would be great to hear all of your opinions!

First off, love the forums, first time poster, long time reader.
Eugene
Watson,Susak,Boogard,Cassio
Levchenko
Caravella,Vidosic,Ramsay
Djite,Serg
Sub-McKain,Usucar,Dilevski,Birra
Wouldn't mind seeing dilevski come on for Caravella and push Watson up to ram at the 65min mark.(depending on how we are going)
I personally haven't been impressed by McKain so far, a bit reckless, way too much like K.Muscat and if I have to watch him do another fake pass-step over when Cassio plays the ball back to him in space I might scream.

Re: 7 weeks in, Whats the best formation?
You guys can talk about formations all you like , but the fact is we still have to have a midfield in any formation and well....ours goes missing.
They are not helping our forwards get the ball in a potential goal situation, yet they also lose the ball in dangerous positions putting our defenders under alot of pressure.
Get the midfield right and we will be succesful
Usucar is an absolute gun at winning the ball back, play with lev. Dario really needs to pull his finger out now as he is cabable of so sooooo much more, but it makes it easy for teams to mark him when the rest of our midfield isnt looking dangerous.
To be fair there was just as much hype about dario as slory when he signed, and imo has had a poorer season overall. So now that slory is gone i dont think he can slide under the radar anymore.
I will be interested to see how da silva/ricardo plays. Some seem to think he is the great hope of au yet most havnt seen him play.... And if they have it has been against local clubs.

Have we seen dilevski at rb this yr?
He needs to come out of midfield. He looses the ball to much.
Should be
Pancho (dm)
Lev or carvella (cm)
With vidosic an ramsey on the wings

Dilevski came in at RB and scored that ripper of a goal to level it with MH, his reward? A move back to midfield! Why Rini? Why!

Spase and Dario were on 5AA sports show tonight and someone asked Spase where he prefers and he said he thinks he plays best in Attacking Midfield positions but he can also play on the right...

Spase was fantastic before the season started of what i saw in central midfield i was so surpirsed his form dropped. Pity it happened when we started playing decent sides....Spase and Dario were on 5AA sports show tonight and someone asked Spase where he prefers and he said he thinks he plays best in Attacking Midfield positions but he can also play on the right...

Spase has played as RB for basically all his professional clubs and he wants to get moved to an attacking mid role?

Re: 7 weeks in, Whats the best formation?
Midfield is absolutely the problem. Vidosic is an attacking midfielder and has to play there; but Serge is a link-up forward and needs space too. Ramsay looks fine out wide but often comes inside which blocks up the congested space further, then Djite drops to pick the ball up as well. We end up with four players filling 10% of the pitch, when poor Vido just needs a little space to work his magic. Tell Ramsay to stay wide, tell Bruce to stay up on the shoulder of the defense and let Vido and Serge take turns taking the ball from the guys that are playing deeper.
Caravella played in Vido's spot against NZ - he can't play there. He has to have the play in front of him so he can feed it out to Ramsay, Vido or Serge, rather than have the play around him like Vido does. He was great at CM against GCU, controlled the entire midfield and allowed Vido to do his thing. When Vido was put up forward vs NZ he instinctively dropped back into the AM position, which made Caravella's job much harder and left Bruce all alone up top. Put them back where they like playing and leave them alone.
