Should we cheer Harry ?
I am probably painting a big target on my back by even asking this question, but shouldn’t we give Harry Kewell a standing ovation when he runs out on to the pitch at Hindmarsh on Oct. 14th ?
Sure, as Adelaide United supporters we are duty bound to hate anybody that pulls on a shirt with a “V” on it, but in this case should we not count ourselves, if only for a few minutes before the game, as supporters of the sport in this country and therefore the A-League itself ?
Even the most one eyed amongst us has to admit that Melbourne’s signing of Mr. Kewell is a massive PR boost for the game in this country and therefore of significant benefit to all of us that follow the game. In the light of the comments made by Mark Schwarzer and the decision by Lucas Neill to opt for the petrodollars, the move home by Harry is a massive and much needed shot in the arm for the domestic game regardless of what his personal motives might be.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not suggesting that the club rolls out the red carpet or that we cheer him every time he touches the ball. However I think a sustained round of applause from the Red Army that may or may not spread around the ground when he comes out would show that we appreciate the faith he is showing in our competition whilst some of his peers are treating it with some disdain.
Of course after the first whistle goes it all changes and we treat him like any other scumbag in a Victory shirt but as we are the first away game we have a chance to set an example which hopefully other clubs might follow.

I think a polite clap is order, nothing too encouraging though!
How about a chant along the lines of:
We love you when your in green and gold.... (to the tune of, we hate you cos your Victorian)

Ppl who slap the label of truth on the 1st thing they hear, do it out of ignorance, convenience or cant be bothered picking through a thin layer of falsehood to find the real truth, or possibly even another lie

I'm not saying he is, but maybe the future of the league and it's ability to attract players of his stature is.No. This is war.

Harry is not the "messiah" and nor is he bigger than the game.

Re: Should we cheer Harry ?
How could we possibly cheer for anyone that voluntarily wore Leeds and Liverpool kits, and now intends to wear the Victory's?
Re: Should we cheer Harry ?
After the game, if he plays well and with dignity i may give him a round of applause. But before and during the game it's abuse central!

at the momment i feel he has lifted the a league up a fair bit, so feel inclined clap him , say when the teams are intodrced , but after that its open season on him , that is also if he dose make any stupid comments about us before the game , and if he plays in the freindyly and acts like a dick you can forget about the first comment

Re: Should we cheer Harry ?
True, but I just think it will be a shame if all the European based Socceroos develop Shwarzers attitude and dont want to come back because they have seen their mates get universally abused by the fans in Oz, like Aloisi did in Sydney. A kind of welcome home from all football fans around the country to someone like Harry could help pave the way for more stars to return before they are completely shagged out.Harry is not the "messiah" and nor is he bigger than the game.
Hope Emerton comes back to play for Sydney.

I will clap him when the teamsheet gets announced on his first visit to Hindmarsh. It's a mark of respect for the man and I have no problem acknowledging what he's done in his career.
However, when the game kicks off, he's a Melbourne Victory player, nothing more, nothing less. I would have felt the same way about Viduka, had he come back to the league.

All I need is some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine.
