Jon McKain has signed a 3 year deal.

Postby Stuckey Fri Jul 22, 2011 4:15 pm

Val just tweeted Jon McKain has signed a 3 year deal.
Loving having players on a 3 year deal instead of 2 year deals.
Sorry for cutting everyone's lunch I just think big signing deserve their own thread!
Most of you are probably on you're phone and can't start a new one.

Woo our defence is looking much better now!

Adelaide United FC is fast becoming a club of great allure for a host of Australia’s senior national team players with Qantas Socceroos defender Jon McKain penning a three year deal with the Reds.

After awaiting some final documentation to be received following his departure from Saudi Arabian club Al-Nasr, McKain’s move to the Reds is now official.

Club History
2010-2011 Al-Nasr (Saudi Arabia) 21 apps, 2 goals
2008-2010 Wellington Phoenix (Australia) 38 apps, 2 goals
2005-2008 Politehnica Timisoara (Romania) 65 apps, 2 goals
2003-2005 National Bucuresti (Romania) 47 apps, 0 goals
1999-2003 Brisbane Strikers (Australia) 67 apps, 3 goals
I like the look of this except for Al-Nasr he clearly stuck it out at every club he played for I can't see him getting sick of Adelaide and bailing.

Fair bit of presure on the squad to perform this season.

Normally we are the underdogs not generally talked about as favourites at the start of the season but always finish near the top ...... Apart from thay one time....

This year is a very different position for us compared to usual.

When McKain signed for 3 years.. I jizzed in my pants!

Also:

“Jon was already on our radar for a number of months. It’s fantastic we can fit him in our squad, first of all because he’s an Australian player with a lot of experience and leadership that we need,” Coolen said.

Quote from the 442 article on their website. Perhaps hints at a possible captaincy? Any thoughts?

I realise that there probably isn't enough money left in terms of the salary cap but I would have liked BOTH McKain and Madaschi. What a formidable central defensive pairing that would have been.

We just need to accept Levchenko now although the reports about him indicate that he is a quality player. My only reservation is that has played most of his career as a midfielder and not as a specialist defender.

Really hoping I missed the show, because while at the Nix, I thought he was servicable. But now he's signed and our title hopes are off the roof? Like I said, hope I missed the reasons why.

Personally I would have taken Madaschi as he's currently playing a higher standard the McKain but I'm more then happy with Jon!

I'll back our national team selection group (ie; coaches and scouts) who place McKain ahead of Madaschi for the Socceroos.

If he's better in their mind, I am not inclined to argue!

I don't know, I think that having our players spread out in different leagues all over the world can sometimes lead to players falling through the cracks or being overlooked.

Eddy Bosnar is a better defender than any number of other players that have been capped, and he hasn't really had a look in. It took a long time for anybody not on these forums to jump on board the Ognenovski bandwagon too.
