FourFourTwo magazine needs an Adelaide fan
Good morning/afternoon/evening all. I'm an english journalist working for FourFourTwo magazine over in London. We do a small feature each week on football snacks from around the world. A little bit of research has led me to the 'pie floater', which actually doesn't look too bad considering its name! basically we need an Adelaide fan to give us a couple of lines on the pie floater, what makes it so good? how often you eat at games etc? how it compares in comparison to other snacks you eat at the footy?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, if you could just reply with a couple of lines in this topic that would be great. You will also get your name included in the magazine (if you wish that is). Cheers

Re: FourFourTwo magazine needs an Adelaide fan
Yeah thats more of a Aussie Rules food sorry. Football fans are a bit more civilised then just dumping a meat pie in a pea soup!
The only thing i consume at games is 6 pints of beer! I wonder why i always miss the 90th minute winners!

Correct. Pie Floaters are to be eaten only after 1am with a minimum pre-lubrication of 8 pints. As a result no one in South Australia knows what a pie floater tastes like, however the advent of cameras on mobile phones definitively proved that we do indeed eat them.We don't eat pie floaters at the football.
Before that we just thought our mates were winding us up.

this is about it, the pie floater is legendary but it's rare to find anyone who's actually eaten one.Correct. Pie Floaters are to be eaten only after 1am with a minimum pre-lubrication of 8 pints. they should be available at the football though, someone should bring it up at the membership committee meeting.

I think a pie floater would be the worst thing to have on a 30 degree day at the football. Remember our A-league season is pretty much in the summer.

Re: FourFourTwo magazine needs an Adelaide fan
I have to get myself some pie floaters and test the age-old myth that it's actually good.
Re: FourFourTwo magazine needs an Adelaide fan
Ah, pie floaters - South Australia's answer to the the kebab. Like most of you, I often wondered how anyone could possibly eat something that looks like it should be exiting your mouth rather than entering it. But it's surprisingly good - the questionably sourced, meat-like substance and the flaky pastry combines with the pea soup to give you both a soup course and a main in the one meal. Long story short - pea soup = meh. Meat pie = meh. Pie Floater? Win.
As for eating it at games - you wouldn't. Need a fork, and that would be classified as a weapon by the FFA.

You guys don't know what you're talking about. The pie floater is a wondrous creation.
Floater from the old GPO pie cart - mince pie upturned in pea soup, lashings of tomato sauce & vinegar (that's the magic ingredient) - beewwwwdiful. I wish we had them at Hindmarsh.
By the way the Kings Head does a great 'gourmet' floater, in keeping with their philosophy of sticking to SA food and beverages (great spot to try some interesting local microbrews):

All I need is some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine.

The Railway Station pie cart was always my late night pie floater haunt. I think the pie cart down at the Parade may have had my custom in this regards at one stageFloater from the old GPO pie cart

I don't mind the ol' pie floater. In fact it's delicious.
Not as good as an A.B. from the North Adelaide Burger bar though...
