We've sold Flores for only $500K? The fans have not even been given the courtesy of some KY to take sting out of this one ... As disappointing a start to the season as i could ever have imaginedReds star Flores to play in China

Marcos Flores will no longer be an Adelaide United player.
The Johnny Warren medal winner will walk away from Adelaide's marquee contract offer in favour of Chinese football.
Flores will be transferred to China's Henan Jianye during the FIFA July/August transfer window's first day of business on Friday.
The proposed Adelaide deal which would have tied Flores to the Reds until 2014 wasn't good enough.

Player in signing for a new club shocker.
Shit happens. It was inevitable, really, at the end of the day, AU isn't Real Madrid/Barcelona/Man United/etc. - a little perspective is needed by a few people.

Hell.
That sucks.

$800,000 and a longer season.
It was too good to be true...
And$500,000 is better than nothing.
Thanks for the memories!

Hate to say this but it seems to be a move based on money not ambition.
Henan Jianye are 2nd to bottom in the CSL, in 1 of the 2 relegation spots.
The CSL isn't exactly the greatest league in Asia either, I'm sure a J-League or K-League team would have become interested had he made it apparent that he wanted to leave and we put him on the transfer list and they surely would have paid more than the measly 500K that Henan did.
We should have rejected the offer and told them to up it, he's worth at least 1-2 mil minimum.
I'm devastated, I hope we find an adequate replacement..

With only 1 year left on his contract? Unlikely. We should have rejected the offer and told them to up it, he's worth at least 1-2 mil minimum.

Devo. Sif we couldn't have offered him something at least competitive. AU made a 1.7mil profit last yr. Surely Flores earned some of that!
I was sus about him staying anyways, and true - at least we got something. Wonder who we will get to replace him? We're going to have a markedly different team to last year.

Wow i did not see this! I would have thought he would stay till the end of the season. But listening to Griffin and co they want to make money for the club and Marcos leaving then for nothing isn't great for their bottom line. I really think we could have increased our offer to him. I reckon he would have stayed for around $500k.
Farewell Marcos thanks for the fantastic memories!
Is it too late to go for Harry! Jks

No big deal. Our club has had a history of finding new players to replace those being sold.
Lets face it, Djite being sold to turkey allowed us to bring in Serg. (and now he's back!)
Burns being sold allowed us to find Leckie.
Marcos being sold allows us to bring in..... well, i look forward to the answer.
Things change. Players come and go. But the fans stay the same

Very true Anti. Its still sad to see him go. I hope he at least plays a small part in the trial match we have. He deserves a nice good bye!

Re: Marcos Flores sold to Henan Jianye for $500,000
damn.
Well said Anti.
I'm disappointed at the transfer fee, but I guess the owners saw $500k (+ the 300k per season saved on salary) or potentially $0, as a business decision it probably makes sense, unfortunately our club is not in the position to be flippant about money.
EdDog, where did you get that figure from? I heard we are looking at making a modest profit next year, but still ran at a loss last year.

The fee was actually less - $400k.
Absolutely gutted. Yet again our club shafts ourselves in the arse.
