Cool, we can field a team with one central defender next season.

AUFC Facebook page:
The influx of Australian defenders heading to Korea’s premier football competition has continued with the Reds agreeing to allow Robert Cornthwaite to join the K-League's Chunnam Dragons. Corny jetted out of Adelaide this morning to join the Dragons for 2 years, pending the outcome of a medical. Congrats Corny and we wish you all the best!!

Best of luck to him. Good to see Australia being recognised so well for one of its strengths.

Now let's hope we can sign some decent defenders to replace those we've lost.

Wasn't he on contract? Do we get any cash for him?

If we are being honest they all are, at the right price.

Robert Cornthwaite is the latest Australian defender to join the K-League after announcing he will swap Adelaide United for the Chunnam Dragons.

The 25-year-old jetted out of Adelaide on Tuesday morning in the hope of progressing his career to the more lucrative and challenging premier football competition in Korea Republic, although his pending two-year deal is subject to Cornthwaite successfully completing a medical.

Cornthwaite is hopeful Chunnam’s interest will see him follow in the footsteps of former Reds team-mates Sasa Ognenovski and Iain Fyfe, as well as a number of other A-League based defenders that have linked with other Korean clubs.

“I’m a little bit nervous but excited at the same time because every player wants to continue their career trying to make it overseas and this is a great opportunity to do that,” Cornthwaite said.

“The season has just started over there, they (Chunnam) contacted me on Thursday and it was a whirlwind deal and they want to get me over there as soon as possible,” Cornthwaite said.

“It’s a bit disappointing that I haven’t been able to say goodbye to everyone here but I’ll definitely keep in touch with my friends in Adelaide.”

“My time at Adelaide United and being able to play for my home city has been really special. I would like to thank the club and the fans for the past six years and hopefully I could be back playing for the Reds again some day.”

Good luck to Cornthwaite, good bit of business for the club to sell him on for a fee.

Now to make a huge play at signing Mark Hughes ...

I wonder how likely he would be to come back once his deal is over?

If we only have four foreigners for next season, sure.

Cassio is currently still a foreigner, let's not forget.
