Slory responsible for Reds' sorry finish

Postby Agostinho Sat Mar 05, 2011 2:17 pm

THERE'S one man chiefly responsible for Adelaide United's disappointing finish to the season.

It's not departing skipper Travis Dodd or fellow castaway Paul Reid.

Neither is it controversial new chairman Greg Griffin, coach Rini Coolen or defender Nigel Boogaard - who inexplicably brought down Joel Porter allowing Gold Coast to score the winning goal from the penalty spot last Sunday.

The man Adelaide United fans should be pointing there fingers at is right winger Andy Slory.

It's Slory - a Dutch international with a history of injury who has played for three clubs in the past 12 months and scored for none of them - who derailed the Reds after their record-setting unbeaten start to the season.

Yes, he couldn't take a trick with injury.

But when he did play he did nothing to justify the lucrative contract he was awarded by the club before kicking a ball in anger.

That article seems to have disappeared from the internet.

Easy response is that Slory doesn't pick the team

Though I don't agree with the article, in hindsight, Leckie and Ramsay should have probably started ahead of Slory and Dodd against GCU tbh.

This article, which seems to no longer exist, is an absolute joke. Whomever the author is that has their name against that article needs their head read.

What rubbish.

How you can blame Slory for how our season finished absolutely baffles me.

So the guy didn't put the ball in the back of the net during his matches with us. So what? Two of his matches were ridiculous weather-wise and Andy flew to Holland last Wednesday to have surgery on his injury that he obtained in our last match.

The fact of the matter is, we let Iain Fyfe go at such a cricial time in our regime and Paul Reid didn't help the cause with his off-field antics. That's where our problems lie, not in attack.

Lastly, we shouldn't have allowed Gold Coast to put the ball in the back of the net 3 times in that match. Period.

I hope they republish this article so we can find out the name of the author, whom is a few fries short of a happy meal.

Clearly Dodd and Reid hacked AdelaideNow as a parting shot at the reds.

what a hack job!!

"controversial new chairmen greg griffin".......... so saving the club, bank rolling some new signings and guiding the club to breaking even this season when the FFA had accounted for a 1.8million loss and keeping the fans informed week in week out makes him controversial?

On the slory note, what utter lowlife would point the finger at him!?

His first injury came as he was regaining match fitness and adjusting to the harder surface in australia. This is completely understandable.

secondly his other 2 injuries happened while he was on the pitch. Both injuries proved his commitment to the ball and how hungry he is.

The hard knock he took against MV was pretty brutal, he also tried to play on from this and run it out for ten minutes.

Keenans injury earlier in the season was very similar to slorys 3rd injurys and could have been much worse.

When are we going to get some intelligent articles about our league where they talk about tactics in depth etc? Or do those writing about it simply not understand?

Its not surprising that article was pulled down given the small section we were able to see. A terrible article by someone who clearly doesn't have any idea

What? Really? Dodd should have not started? He scored in the two previous games against MV and Wellington....there was absolutely no way u could have dropped him....

As for Slory, i agree, Ramsay or Leckie should have started ahead of him...probably Ramsay as he is a natural left-winger....

Id rather have has slory starting.

Ramsay is very one dimensional, atm is best an impact player.

Leckie has really lacked a first touch since coming back, IMO he needed more game time after coming back to warrant a starting position.

Its hard to judge slory on his performance since he was injured so early.

If i could have changed any part of the line up id have put usucar in ahead of reid since he was apparently fit. but im not paid to make those sorts of call :)

Slory was (has been) adisappointment in the final series but he was'nt Robinson Crusoe either.
There were a few others out there who deliberately sabotaged the club, for their own egos and bitterness.
To be honest, thank goodness some them have have shown the door.

The opinion piece that disappeared is now back.
And there is a whole mess of Polls to do.

http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/ade ... 6016335539

I for one did not understand his signing in the first place.
But then again I would have backed Pantelis to find his groove and used Ramsay as the impact player but it is WURST!
It's "snow from yesterday".
The season is over and we have to look forward.

I have also read over at FootballNews that Dario Bodrusic has been released.
There was something in the Sunday Mail but that's another paper that does not deliver this far North.
" There was, he added, no room for spin, showmanship, hubris or “any of the feelings of invincibility” that so often shackle nations with an imperial past ... " - - -
