I'm getting the impression some people don't realise that The Roar is a sports opinion site and nothing to do with Brisbane Roar, or even divegrass specifically.

Art Saphire is entitled to his opinion.
http://www.theroar.com.au/author/art-sapphire/
We throw some shit and boo a player and we are tearing ourselves apart because of some " fair play myth" that exists in the great canon of australian myths like the "bunyip", "fair go" and the "bronzed aussie".
"It's snow from yesterday."
Let's get on with it
I want to know what is happening next season!
The real "bad sports" are at the FFA.

But this "cringe" is getting too much."Let He Who Is Without Sin Cast The First Stone"

I'm pretty sure the author is from Melbourne, not Brisbane.
And I've no idea what his article has to do with the flood levy either.

Art makes a lot of great points, and I chuckle at some of the responses here.
You're all acting as if you were also involved in the booing, coin/bottle throwing and every other part of abuse throughout the season and are trying to defend your actions.
Did you do it? Were you involved? If not, why stick up for the idiots that did? There's a reason people outside our supporters look down on us at times like this.
For a bunch of people who complain about the actions of many Melbourne Victory supporters, you're sure as Hell doing a lot to support them.

^^^
Exactly.
All the bad stuff (bottle/coin throwing etc) is accepted by our crowds. Whether you do it personally or don't do anything to discourage it, we're all responsible for changing it for the better. The problem is that a majority of 'fans' don't want to change it.
Saying we have a chip on our shoulder is a pretty fair comment. Of course the home crowd is always going to be biased but we can't accept the most obvious of free kicks against us. Chants of "Bullshit, bullshit" just make us look fucking stupid. Generally, the refs aren't bad. Yes, we've had some bad calls against us at critical times but move on.
There are a bunch of people that act with a anti-authority punk attitude and the rest are sheep and go along with it. The number of anti-Weslo/police chants are also incredibly dumb and unjustified.
The responses here read like Charlie Sheen quotes. It's not anger but "passion" and we'll defend it violently, through violent hatred.
If anyone chucks a bottle/rips a flare/breaks a seat and I can point them out, I happily will next season. You've been warned.
Don't worry, be happy!!!

Re: How to turn city of bad sports into great fans
Being one eyes when the ref makes a call does not make us bad sports, it just shows our passion.
Anytime there is a 50/50 decision going against us im happy to tell the ref he is blind. Then ill sit down and say to the guy next to me "the ref probably got it right there"
I have no problem with this, anything like this that fans can do to subdue intimidate a ref or opponent is a plus.
HOWEVER.
Anyone who makes noise in a minutes silence, throws coins or bottles, Rips flares etc are CLEARLY not there for the game they are to prove their penis size IMO.
Its unfair to say most of us are not against this behaviour when its clear 99% of people who post here do not want to see this shit.
There is also the problem of calling people out is you sit in the same spot every game. people have memories. This does not bother me so much and didnt stop me in our last game but for some it may.

Completely with the above three posts, and to be honest I was disappointed we booed Bruce. I would have thought fans had a better grasp our history than that. Any other player than one which has left AUFC on good terms boo your absolute lungs out, I do. But Bruce has never done anything wrong to us and deserved better than that, particularly in the class he showed by not celebrating his goal. It's part of growing goodwill amongst the playing ranks.

Re: How to turn city of bad sports into great fans
TBH, some of brisbanes fans showed a lack of respect for their team as there were quite a few empty seats after the mariners scored, surely win or long fans would want to stay after the game the show the team their appreciation for an amazing season .
Although it may be a little hard on the Roar fans as a good 40 000 of the 50 000 in attendance would have been ring-ins who porbbaly wouldnt normally go a game

Yeah let's populate a city which doesn't have enough water to supply the population it has now. Our roads are grid locked at peak hour. Our new citizens run around kniving each other because that's what they used to do back home.
