Finals are set, well almost

Postby David Votoupal Sun Feb 06, 2011 9:44 pm

So the weekend's results mean that:
- Brisbane are Premiers
- Central Coast Mariners are second
This means the winner out of these two host the Grand Final, the loser hosts a preliminary final.

- Adelaide United assured 3rd place and at least one home final, Gold Coast United all but assured barring a major change in GD.
- Wellington Phoenix need one more point to get 6th place. Newcastle Jets may keep it alive one more week if they beat Perth Glory and Wellington lose in Sydney.

So the finals would be:
1.Brisbane Roar v Central Coast Mariners
2.Adelaide United v Wellington Phoenix
3.Gold Coast United v Melbourne Victory.
4.Winner 2 v Winner 3
5.Preliminary Final - Loser 1 v Winner 4
6.Grand Final - Winner 1 v Winner 5

In finals game 4, league position of course determines who hosts the final. Melbourne Victory and Wellington Phoenix thus are at a disadvantage in having to travel away for all their finals- unless both of them win, in which case Victory would be at home the next week.

The most likely scenario would be a Mariners v Adelaide United Preliminary Final, which I'd consider going up for.

Won't happen. Can't see Gold Coast winning both their remaining games. They've got Brisbane Roar in the final round as well.

I can see them beating ccm, I think that the roar game is 50/50.

Lets just hope we can get over mv.....but I'm not confidant

You may be right, given Victory's recent upsurge in form following that incident. Check out the stats I compiled elsewhere too. Hmmm.

Allsop is hitting his straps, Kruse is full of confidence (like he needed any more!) and, like you have shown dv, the back line is working a lot better without Muscat...

After the story on tonights 10 news that Rini had read the riot act to the players it seems obvious that we are far from united and with some players more concerned about next season rather than the current one, it is not hard to imagine a 4th place finish and 2 games in a row against MV. And straight out in the first round of the finals.

Our previous 3 performances were suspect especially against wellington, that some players were not putting in.
As I said on another post this attitude is a slap in the face for the loyal supporters and i stand by it.

lets not forget: even if we beat mv and finish 3rd, there's still a good possibility we will play mv again next week... if wellington win their final 2 games - away to sfc and then home against nqf. would be more surprised if they lost these 2 imo.

as much as i hate to say it, i highly doubt we'll go far in the finals if we have to play mv back-to-back :(

however, it would make it all that much sweeter if we did :)

AWSOME, well done FFA.

Line our game up against the biggest night on the adelaide social calendar. We are competing with the Fringe.

Though it could work out, people can goto the game then catch a tram up to the fringe after ? perfect night?

You're always competing with something, somewhere.

And the fringe goes into the night if I'm not mistaken.
Sounds like a great night out.
Hindmarsh for the football and then on to the fringe celebrations ecstatic with a win!
