I'm disappointed we lost Henrique too. This could mean we're looking at tying down Cirio as he's coming off contract as well.

Baba should hopefully fit into the front 3 fairly easily if he can play 9 or 11.

By my calculations, we lost Kmaau, Bruce, Goodwin, Mauk and Sanchez. + Dugandzic and Babalj were cut -7
We then signed Holland, Guardiola, Henrique, Marino, Garrucio and Regan + Mcgree and O'Doherty. +7
We have now lost Holland, Guardiola and Henrique. - 3
So by my calculations, we are still 3 players down on top of the fact what we lost initially were not replaced properly. Therefore, the squad is quite severely depleted from last year and there is no way the club is going to be able to repair the damage in this window.
All points to the fact that the dissenting voices that the club was so defensive about, were on the money all along.
I reckon this mess is going to take at least another season to rectify.

Baba sounds decent, should do alright if there is anyone left that can actually create a chance for him.

Give him 3-4 games and then the dissenting voices will rise again.

Well if you include Makarounas Kitto and Mileusnic then we aren't actually down any players.

That said the players we replaced we're at a slightly higher level than the ones we have gotten. I think there is some very promising young talent in our side but they still require a season or two to make a massive difference.

Dylan Smith needs to be added to the list of players who left. Tongyik and Koutroumbis also left but were never in the senior squad.

Out: Djite, Goodwin, Mauk, Kamau, Pablo, Dugandzic, Babalj, Smith 8 players.
In: Guardiola, Garuccio, Holland, Kitto, Henrique, Miluesnic*, Makarounas, McGree, O'Doherty, Marino 10 players

*Miluesnic fill the mature age rookie position which we did not fill last season.

Regan replaces the injured Elsey for the season.

Now Guardiola, Holland and Henrique have left with Baba coming in. Still Makarounas and McGree were extra CM players over what the squad had last season. And with Guardiola/Baba and Marino we still have the same number strikers on the list and Babalj was injured last season. We got away with a very thin squad in the midfield and up front last season, we have not this season even with more midfielders.

The majority of the so called "dissenting voices" were also highly vocal about the same players they now wax lyrical about which i find odd. Infact much the same was being said about last years squad and then we went on to win the double. However this season they seem to be patting themselves on the back.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

In any case there is merit in everyones oppinions, but the mindless dribble you find else where particularly on facebook is something else.

People change their opinions and surely that is what we want. Sticking to an opinion in the face of evidence to the opposite is not very worthwhile.
I was wrong about Djite, he proved my assessment of him and his goal scoring capabilities to wrong. I did not think he was capable of the goal scoring run he produced last season.
I was wrong about Guardiola after his first game, I thought he would score lots of goals for us.

Rumour on 442 that Djite has been released by his Korean club. It would be good to sign him, Baba can play on the wing.

Now THAT would be promising!

Has anyone seen the idiot abroad series with karl pilkington and ricky gervais ? I cant help grouping our new striker with "one armed baba" from india as the same person lmao.

Maybe he will be involved in a hand of god situation and that nickname can stick lol

His rating on fifa looks promising. Appears to be a very strong striker with a high work rate and phisically very agile.

I cant recall a time we had an agile striker who was also every bit as strong.

I agree which is why we aim to keep things a little more circumspect on here. There is more than enough places to mindlessly whinge on the net. This isn't one of them.

On Henrique. I wonder if the tactics/refereeing of the HAL played a role in his move? Even on the weekend he was hacked down from behind for no free kick or protection from the ref. Maybe leaving the HAL is part of career preservation?
Although as Phil mentioned if he joined AU under the proviso he was a starter then I would expect that would play the primary role to him leaving.
Time to Djbate!
