Any who now that the club has made the NPL it will be very interesting to see what sort of young talent the club can lure.
Watching the game on Saturday, I don't think Valkanis was happy with some of the squad he had so I expect a few changes for sure. Talent ID is something that is bound to improve as time goes on.

This is the only game I got to this season so I don't want to comment on the quality of the state league vs the NPL but I'm pretty certain none have ex-A League players like Visconte and Barbiero which the kids will learn a lot from playing against.
There are a few ex-NYL players but your right no ex-HAL players I'm sure.
Yes next season will be a huge step up. No more easy weeks with double digit score lines.
Obviously its a long way off and the squad will change a bit but as it stands I'll just be happy with survival next season.

I agree. I'd be pleased as punch with us as a competitive mid-table club with the boys getting a real work-out week in, week out and learning how to maintain their composure and work rate when a couple of goals down.

It wouldn't be a bad thing for them to learn a bit of humility playing against top-quality senior opposition.
All I need is some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine.

Yeah I think every learning curb can be a positive one. I hope the lads don't get to carried away with losses early on.

Youth Team Season Review: Michael Valkanis

“One: to play good football; two: by playing this good football to win the senior and reserve competitions; and lastly: to finish with the top goal scorer.
“So when you look at it now, we reached for the sky and it paid off. But in the end it was all our hard work that did it and with the boys putting in so much effort we achieved it all.”

So sweet to see the club with some silverware.

Also nice to hear the Adelaide Olympic beat Port Pirates 5-1 over two legs to gain promotion as well.
Hopefully that's a good indicator that clubs at the top of the SL aren't miles of the pace of some NPL clubs.

I didn't realise this but its been mentioned that much of this squad has now been together since June 2014. Since then they've played 65 games in 64 weeks.

I'm pretty sure this includes NYL, State League, a tour of Spain and trial games.

On top of that the better players have also been featuring for the seniors as well.

The knockers can say what they like but no other club offers as much football as that for players to develop from.

Gomby was always pushing for youth to play 60 games a year like they do in Europe.

He thinks the talent is there, just that we lack the game time.

This is going to be great for Australian football.

I really hope the NYL stays around. We need our players playing as much as they can.

I hope we see it bear fruit in the first team soon.
