Victory once again making a mockery of the salary cap.

Di Pietro to Glenn Elliott in 2013: 'There's two salary caps in this league. There's yours and everyone else's, and then there's ours.'
I still don't see it that way.

Look at their squad. Last season they would have had only 10 players earning over $60k and two of those were marquees.
Your point would make sense, till the point where players would jump ship for more money. Now of course not every player would jump ship, but you would expect some to do so as some players are always going to be looking to earn more when they can. But we haven't seen that. That could suggest that they're already earning more than any other club would be willing to offer, because MV are capable of giving them the best of everything.

Exactly MV have some of the best facilities an HAL clubs can offer. Which obviously is something beyond financial measure. It would definitely be a factor in why a player would choose a club. I feel they are really developing a culture there that it seems a bit "ask not what the club can do for you."

thats because MV have built a massive connection with business in Victoria, doesn't take a big company to be able to stump up 50-100k for a private endorsement deal for a player that doesn't have to be included in the cap. Do that for the whole playing squad and it makes a big difference!

That's what they reckon Harry Kewell did when he signed with Heart.

Its alway funny to hear about things like this or Perth where the club has done something questionable to gain an advantage and next to no advantage is gained! :D

Its when the extend player contracts who have had a break out season that other aleague clubs put offers in for that makes me wonder.

But yes, private endorsments are where clubs can get around the cap.

To be fair, we do player sponsors as well, whether its on par with MV thats another story.

Subtly changing the subject....

So I hear this loyalty player will be for players that have spent 5 seasons at their club.

AU have three Euge, Bruce and Ozzie. I'm not sure if the amount that is subsidized is $200k or $150k as I've heard differing things but from what I hear its basically there for the club's to spend it how they want on those players.

I don't think the players get that money and if it does it comes in via the club so it definitely gets included in the cap.

What clubs could do, and especially victory are in this category is get third parties to pay them and claim that they weren't involved in the arrangement. An example of this sort of thing happening was with Tippet at the crows. He was getting paid by Balfour's to do those annoying ads but allegedly were not put under the cap.
