I think Ollie is good enough to play as a 10 for the inevitable times that Chelo gets injured. Obviously would also be very strong in Jeggo's position too.

If it is him, there will be plenty of competition for spots all over the park except for probably Bruce's position.

I think you guys are setting the bar way too high for this signing. He's been described as a young talented player. IMO that suggests he'll be very young and more in the Jeggo mould of being relatively untested at HAL level.
We know he's a midfielder. At the moment that's probably the strongest area of the pitch for the club. So I doubt its going to be anything more then a squaddie signing.

Midfield is our strongest position yes but we had bugger all cover there last season.

Wouldn't say Ollie is young at 26.

"Youngster will talent" as has been touted tells me he will be 20-23.

Yeah that's more like it. Which IMO is fine I'm happy with the club not going out and signing ready made players. Adelaide United has always generally been a club that creates stars and doesn't sign them. The biggest thing I'd like to see the club do is just look at keeping them longer.

Problem is, Gomby has 2 years max left here so we need players who can make a difference this season and next so we can win something.

Bozanic would be a good signing, but "young", "exciting"?

That is very true, he is certainly not young and exciting. However I would be extremely happy if he joins us.

Remember, young and exciting is just someone's opinion.

That's where I get back to a previous point that this season IMO is all about the younger brigade stepping up. If Awer can become a 90 minute player, McGowan can develop further with the system and Jeggo can continue his improvement. That coupled with senior players with a history of regular injuries hopefully playing more thanks to the new training facility will be how AU has a successful season. The chances that AU are going to sign up a player like Janko at Sydney for example who's going to bag 15 goals this season is slim to none.

I'm pretty pessimistic about life after Gomby. I don't know a lot of players that will hang around too long. Any youth product making improvement will attract interest from other clubs and they will likely move on. We are seeing the attention Mabil and now Jeggo are getting. How long can we hold on to them?

Exactly. Good player, but neither young (he might not be in the twilight years of his career, but 26 is hardly young in football) or particularly exciting. Would still be a good signing if it happened.

To me, young an exciting would be someone under 23, maybe even 20, who has a lot of potential, like Mabil. But as EdDog said, "young and exciting" is subjective. Young and exciting to Adam Howard could be a 24 year old with tekkers.

Regardless, I'm looking forward to this announcement.

While maybe not for a pro-footballer, 26 feels pretty young to me these days

According to FFT forums, there's strong rumours going around that the mystery player is Oliver Bozanic.

Bit disappointing if true tbh
Are you serious?! He would be amazing.
I guess I was just hyping myself up, expecting Gavin "the next Harry Kewell" De Niese or some other mystery Aussie from a larger OS club's academy.

Any idea if Ollie can play as a CAM? If the club signs a midfielder, the most important thing IMO is that he can step in for Carrusca if he's still being brought down by irritating minor injuries.

La Rocca to act as a solid and experienced rock in defence, Bozanic to act as a playmaker and Babalj to give Djite some competition. :boogie:
Seriously? How were you hyped up for De Niese? 3 days ago you did not even know who he was but somehow bozanic is a let down?

A creative mid in the national team set up is a let down ? Is it possible that you just do not know who these guys are?

A bozanic, chelo isaias midfield trumps anything in the aleague right now imo
