Re: Flores to Portland?
Damn I hope your info is good...My info is that Marcos wants to re-sign with AUFC.
He is also keen for a pay rise.
He will be loaned only if AUFC want to offload him to save his wages in the off season.
Given the adulation Marcos receives here though, and his attitude towards the fans - it wouldn't surprise me if he did want to stay.

Re: Flores to Portland?
well sounds like good news and the loan deal makes sense. Why not loan out our highest paid players when they aren't playing. Saves money and keeps them fit. We just need to make sure their contracts are iron clad so they can't do a Van Dijk with us.

van Dijk wasn't loaned to us though - he was out of contract with Brisbane. We just need to make sure their contracts are iron clad so they can't do a Van Dijk with us.

Re: Flores to Portland?
Doesn't seem that the Timberwolves are after him. I have no problems with us loaning him out after we extend his contract until 2015.

Yeah there was nothing dodgy about him coming here.van Dijk wasn't loaned to us though - he was out of contract with Brisbane. We just need to make sure their contracts are iron clad so they can't do a Van Dijk with us.
He was out of contract with brisbane and was taking offers for the next aleague season.
Meanwhile he took a short term contract with us for ACL to put him in the shop window so to speak. But decided he liked the city and the club and our offer was right .

Re: Flores to Portland?
oh i'm not saying it was dodgie or anything i just think most Brisbane supporters thought he'd be going back to them after the ACL like Mirdja for MV (is that how you you spell his name?)

Re: Flores to Portland?
well no,
the difference was Mrdja was released specifically so he could play for victory and then come back to CCM.
Van dijk had just finished his contract at brisbane and honestly everyone thought he was going to sydney , it was a very different situation, but i do get where your coming from

Re: Flores to Portland?
more,MARCOS Flores wants to avoid the contract fate that stung Travis Dodd and Paul Reid.
The Reds star has rejected Portland Timbers' initial offer and wants to meet with Adelaide United boss Rini Coolen.
Coolen said Flores was on top of the Reds' must-have list but at the same time the club had to be open-minded before more foreign clubs made plays for the talisman.
"We are trying our best to keep him," Coolen said.

What does that mean, "we are trying our best"?
He wants to stay.
We want him to stay.
He is a great player.
What's there to think about?
Give him a new improved contract please!

I would like to think it means AUFC are putting their best offer on the table.
we know we have a salary cap to consider and even if we did make him the marquee - the club need to consider the financial position of the club.
in truth i cant see the club and Flores signing more than a 2 year extension to his contract. in this day and age of sport it would be irresponsible to sign anyone past 3 year deals.

Re: Flores to Portland?
Hang on, don't Marquees have to have represented their country at full international level?
Marcos doesn't qualify does he?

Re: Flores to Portland?
Well Ricardinho hasn't ever played for Brazil and he's Melbourne's marquee (lol) - so I don't think that's a genuine stipulation...Hang on, don't Marquees have to have represented their country at full international level?
Marcos doesn't qualify does he?
