Mauk is indeed the rumour.

If so, in a midfield of D'Arrigo, McGree and Troisi, it's D'Arrigo who'll probably miss out.
Can't say I'd like that, D'Arrigo is really coming along well. If we were playing ACL it would be handy, but we aren't.

Mauk at DM ? Surely not ?
He is a poor man's McGree, box to box or attacking mid.

I actually think this could be a really smart piece of business by the club.

McGree will surely be in Europe next season while Troisi may end up leaving as well so bringing in a proven quality replacement is a no brainer imo.

I know Mauk hardly played last season due to injury but he struggled this season because Fowler played him as a 6.

We know he has to potential to be one of the best Australian midfielders in the league and AUFC always seems to get the best out of talented players who struggled at their previous club for whatever reason.

Mauk would be coming from warming the pine in Brisbane to warming the pine at Hindmarsh. I wouldn't start him over the three mids we currently field. Heck, I'd even have Konsta sub in before Mauk.

Don't get me wrong, I loved the guy when he was previously in red, but surely he's surplus as of right now.

Would have been a handy pickup if Troisi had moved this window, but now not so much.

Mauk Done Deal!

Agree with SUB007 this is a great signing. Every possibility O/S clubs are sniffing around McGree again, this is excellent preperation.

(allow me to rant a little)

Mauk had offers from Macarthur but is really reaching his football crossroads. Perhaps left a little prematurley last time, I've no doubt the pitch from Bruce was 12-18months here and he can be back in Europe.
I think when Mauk signed for Brisbane he pointed out how keen he was to work under Aloisi, now hes given Fowler some time but its not happening being played out of position ad a number 6.

On that, who'd have thought 6 months ago we could repatriate Mauk and Troisi, both seemed to have ego's too big for this town yet here we are working out how to cram all that talent in to a single line up.

Troisi was no doubt sold some kind of LeBron/Pirlo story, again Mauk no doubt reminded of where hes played his best football and springboarded to Europe once before. The clubs role is to get the best football out of all personality types, so far so good (we'll see with Kitto).

So how do we fit them all in for the back half of the year?
Firstly both McGree and Troisi have been injured at various times, this would be amazing cover should it happen again.
Secondly, i though McGree was almost playing a false 9 at times last week, 8 goals he's scored, maybe there is some more of that?
I'd be looking to pull the pin on Boland though and replace him with a striker or defensive coverage.
Remember Mauks last 13 game run with Adelaide.......

(rant over)

Not sure if fills any immediate need tbh.
Are we recruiting based on state of origin or squad needs? Like everything, it’s about balance.

Mauk as a box to box mid off the bench sure, a better option than lia.

Boland can take the dm role and d’arrigo is can also come off the bench. I dont think this will harm d’arrigo, guaranteed game time can be a negative too , keep his reaching .

I do not understand the vidosic tumour though.

Another midfielder ...
I still prefer D'Arrigo in the starting 11.

And we don't need Vidosic, that's for sure.

I want to be excited for Mauk and I'm sure there is a plan for the future here but it's a little underwhelming, especially when we are suddenly flush with central mids atm.

I like the idea of McGree as a false 9 with 2 pacey wingers, Troisi and Mauk running the midfield and D'Arrigo screening the back 4. Not sure thats our philosophy though.

Agree with the comments above about recruiting based on where the player was born instead of what we actually need but I really think the planning is going beyond this season.

Direct replacement for LIa ... and a step up in quality while doing so. Also suits Verbeek's philosophy of attack, attack, attack. Who needs DMs when you can have another AM?

Actually, comments on here at the start of the season were that we couldn't start D'Arrigo every game, and as a young player he will hit a bad patch or need a break at some point in the season. With Boland so often unavailable and Lia gone, I'm happy enough to have Mauk as an option. Hopefully it either pushes others to a higher level of performance, or he delivers that higher level himself.
