If Adelaide had a second team...
I always wonder about this and thought I'd chuck this up - its a log off-season.
So what does everyone think?
Likely colours, name, would you be a convert? Like with Power's intro to the AFL, there were a lot of half + non-supporters who adopted them.
Share Hindmarsh or new stadium?
Players who would come back, promoted from state league etc. The rivalry would be great.
Go!

If Adelaide was a football town not an AFL town?
Well obviously United (red) should have rivals City (sky blue)...

Re: If Adelaide had a second team...
I too would like to see Adelaide City. However I'd like to see them of the white and black variety - but that'll never happen with the FFA's stance on ethinic clubs.
In terms of a scratch built team? It would be an incredibly hard thing to do. Unlike Melbourne and Sydney, football supporters here who don't follow the city's original A-League team generally have little if any interest in the A-League. Hearts and Wanderers are important because alot of Melbournes hated Victory because of the Tard image and Sydney siders simply weren't engaged properly.
The people in this town who don't support United don't support the A-League full-stop, and I don't know if aiming a club at them will be much use

I agree with you - I don't think we have the market and a new club would only dilute our current supporter base.
My topic was just purely for speculative and imaginative purposes. Wanted to hear people's thoughts etc.

I ponder this too at times. The only geographical place where you could have a half-successful second HAL team is in the northern suburbs.
Definitely go with Adelaide City, for the name. I would remain an AU supporter for the rest of my days, though; I know I am, I'm sure I am, United 'til I die!

Adelaide City. I understand the "red v blue" thing, but to be honest, they'd alienate their existing fans by switching away from their black and white.
United v City...

Between Port, Collingwood and the Toon, it's ingrained in me to despise anything black and white. Can't help it.

Re: If Adelaide had a second team...
I think it'd be a bad idea to pull a Melbourne and have 2 teams based in the city.
I could see a Northern suburbs OR a Southern Suburbs team managing to do well... but I'd still be an AUFC fan.

haha Adelaide Fire, forgot about that! wasn't there Adelaide Sharks as well??
can you imagine what would occur if United ever played City in a pre-season 'friendly'. you would have a massive crowd for a 'nothing' match... the idea of United v City in the FFA Cup is a drooling prospect! And possible Weslo nightmare :-/
i'd support a Northern Suburb team that was based at Burton Park - i go down there to watch the youth enough as it is. i'm not sure that a 'from scratch' team would have the rivalry vibe like Victory and Heart have tho. it would be more of a little brother/big brother relationship i reckon. United fans giving the newbie fans shit whilst the new club's fans would focus on supporting their side as they tried to build up to something successful.

This. It would be so easy promote, just say United vs City and you might get some old nsl city supporters come out of their hole to come watch the match. Also considering Adelaide City is from what I can gather the only Super League team we haven't faced in a pre-season match.can you imagine what would occur if United ever played City in a pre-season 'friendly'. you would have a massive crowd for a 'nothing' match... the idea of United v City in the FFA Cup is a drooling prospect! Re: If Adelaide had a second team...
Personally I feel the FFA might be softening on the ethnic club rule. The longer we have HAL clubs dying while clubs like Marconi and South Melb pretty much roll in cash. Hopefully the FFA cup and Australian Premier League come to pass and an Adelaide club takes the chance to become Adelaide's number two side. As everyone else says I get the feeling that club will be City
Time to Djbate!

Re: If Adelaide had a second team...
A second Adelaide side would be decades away, unless an A2-League ever gets up and running... Correct me if I'm wrong but City only got average gates of a few thousand in the NSL, right?
All I need is some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine.
