Re: Rini Coolen takes Adelaide United to court.
Am I the only one who thinks Coolen is justified in pursuing this?
Sure he was a poor coach, but the club are the ones stupid enough to sign him up on a long term contract. And yes, I know they didn't sack him - but they what they did to force him to walk away. IMO Rini deserves (in a contractural sense, not based on his abilities) severance.
Everything this administration does makes them look amateur.

Re: Rini Coolen takes Adelaide United to court.
Perhaps a fair arguement (although not sure it would hold any bearing in court) for hiring him in the first place - but then they went ahead and extended his contract based on performance so seems a bit of a straw man argument.also "Adelaide United lawyers filed a cross action, claiming Coolen made misleading statements in his resume(sic) that would have made his contract void."

I tend to agree with you, although without having read the actual contract its hard to say one way or another.Am I the only one who thinks Coolen is justified in pursuing this?

In everyday working life, making an employee do duties below their payroll in hope they will quit can be seen as a form of bullying or intimidation which is not allowed in australian work place.
But im no lawyer but au is full of lawyers so who knows

i completely agree. he should be paid out in full. i know he was a shit coach, but he moved his whole family here on a contract for 4 years for a certain amount of money. you cant just push him aside and make him quit. he is owed his money and AUFC should be paying him out.Am I the only one who thinks Coolen is justified in pursuing this?

I haven't read his contract so I'm in no place to justify either side of the conflict being either right or wrong.
That's really all there is to it. Rini may be entitled, he may not be. I am not one to try and make that assessment though because I do not know the details.

I tentatively agree. pending knowledge of actual facts.Am I the only one who thinks Coolen is justified in pursuing this?

I thought cutting him loose when they did (or before) would be worth the expense. I figured it would be handled with more grace though... and that none of the other spectacular administrative errors of last season would be made.
It's not unheard of to have to 'reapply' for a promotion/extension of your current position with the full works including résumé/interview etc. (I'm in that process right now.)Perhaps a fair arguement (although not sure it would hold any bearing in court) for hiring him in the first place - but then they went ahead and extended his contract based on performance so seems a bit of a straw man argument.
If I had to be extremely speculative based on no evidence, I think the United board might say that Rini falsely claimed credit for Stubbins work early in 2010/11

Re: Rini Coolen takes Adelaide United to court.
Somehow Stubbins was sacked when his Thai club (Insee Police United) was doing quite well. Perplexing..
But that said, Coolen's influence and change ultimately undid the team. Up until mid-November, 2010, Stubbins ran training sessions. Maybe we were always going to lose to the Tards at the Tard Dome. Maybe Brisbane at Suncorp too. Rini's sessions were low intensity, shape-based and ran for hours and hours.

Contract dispute to be settled in January, possibly November if there's time. Coolen's staying until 'the end of the school year'.

Update:
November 23: Trial to happen in January.
----
December 6: It's now looking somewhat unlikely that the trial can happen next month - the month of expiry of Rini's tourist visa - because Greg Griffin is friends with some members of the jury.
