Re: Stout Australian stopper signs
EXCLUSIVE: Socceroo Jon McKain has signed a pre-agreement with Adelaide United but his representatives say the defender does not have clearance from Saudi club, Al Nasr.
au.fourfourtwo.com can confirm the 28-year-old Australian is in Adelaide today but also understand his Saudi club have not granted him a release.
His representatives also claim no formal approach has been made, and say a lack of respect has been shown to the Saudi club, who released the Socceroo from his contract with a year left on the deal.

Re: Stout Australian stopper signs
That makes no sense, surely if he has been released then he is a free agent and they have no say on where he goes.
Also, I don't quite understand why Rini wouldn't sign Mbarga on the grounds that he would take up a foreign spot.. Don't we still have 4 spots left (with Slory taking up one and assuming Cassio becomes an Australian citizen and van Dijk is our +1 asian player)?
I would like to see him given the chance at A-League level with us, even if it's backup to van Dijk and Djite tbh.

Re: Stout Australian stopper signs
Maybe Rini doesn't rate him high enough to take a foreign spot over someone like Levchenko. I don't know though you'll have to ask him. That makes no sense, surely if he has been released then he is a free agent and they have no say on where he goes.

Re: Stout Australian stopper signs
there is no +1 asian player in the a-league. Our current imports are, Slory, Usucar, Cassio, SvD. We have 1 spot left and that presumably is going to Levchenko if he signs. I would like to see Mbarga get a gig and maybe will when Cassio does get his citizenship or SvD leaves. That makes no sense, surely if he has been released then he is a free agent and they have no say on where he goes.

Re: Stout Australian stopper signs
Oh yeah, and Usucar!
On Wikipedia it says "An A-League squad must have between 20 and 23 players, with a maximum of 5 players from outside Australia (and New Zealand, in the case of Wellington Phoenix). The squad must also include at least three under-20 players and may have one additional player from the Asian Football Confederation"
I took this to mean 5+1 during the regular season.
But, yeah, that makes sense if that's wrong and would explain Rini's decision.

Re: Stout Australian stopper signs
there's been plenty of confusion over it but as far as i know it's only the ACL that has the +1 Asian player, squads are allowed 3 visa players + 1 Asian visa player in that. The A-League has never taken this step as far a i know.

Re: Stout Australian stopper signs
Correct.
The player you refer to is a "guest" player, and does not take up a visa spot nor does he come under the salary cap

Re: Stout Australian stopper signs
How could they bring it down to 4 ???
Clubs will have 5 foreigners with long contracts. I doubt the A-League will terminate them.

Stout stopper not coming?
the comment is interesting,
http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/soc ... 6097776431SOCCEROOS defender Jon McKain's pending Adelaide United three-year contract has hit a serious roadblock.
The Socceroos stopper last night told The Advertiser his future was uncertain after ending his recent stint with Saudi Arabia's Al Nasr Riad.
``I'll see what happens in the next few days,'' McKain said.
``I've still got issues with the process that needs to be seen to.

This is a very vague report Val. Why not write that McKain's club has not released him and that his agent is trying to get his contract (which has a year to run) terminated. This is what has been reported by other media outlets. This is a strange case with the agent apparently saying that United has not made a formal approach and that they need to show respect to the Saudi Arabian club. However, there seems to be contradictions in that his club has been reported as having released McKain and that the player has signed a pre-agreement with the Reds. How can there be no formal approach if the player has signed a pre-agreement?

Re: Stout Australian stopper signs
Mckain is training with the main squad im pretty sure, so just a hiccup with waiting on release papers from his previous club...this is my understanding anyway.
