Basic Football

Postby Dermot Mon Dec 06, 2010 11:58 pm

How many times do we have to watch A-League players NOT putting a player on each post when defending a corner.

BASICS!!!!! That is why we lost and didn't get the draw.
If there was a player on the back post we would have cleared the ball.

Isn't that what we teach under sixes right through to under 18's :bang:

Surely the organisation on corner kicks is worked out at training. So if a player doesn't take his position surely the keeper should be barking orders. So do be blame the player not being on the post(Cassio?) or Eugene for not demanding it happens.
Like Dermot says we learn this in under 6's ffs.

off memory Cass was on front post. we could argue that maybe being a player down, the side chose to pick a man each, but that was clearly a hugely regretable mistake. imho, Eugene should be organising his defence against the set piece. And if he misses something, Fyfe or Pants (captain at the time) should also be noticing these things.

Little discipline mistakes like this can cost teams silverware. It's just not good enough.

Yeah considering the circumstances, they picked up a man each rather than zone the penalty box. We have done that a few times this year with disastrous effect.

Exactly this. They chose the (correct and taught to kids) option of taking a player off the post and marking the man. Space doesnt score goals, players do.

If we werent a man down, there wouldve been a man on the post.

:gunner: is what should have happened by Rini following that display. Always cover your posts - remember the bloody ACL? All of last season for that matter? Bloody annoys me.

I haven’t seen the goal again since watching it live, but from memory I don’t reckon a man on the post would’ve made much difference – Sigmund got a lot of power into the header and I don’t recall it going in the corner of the net, more just left of centre.

If you stop the video at 50 seconds you will see that if a player was on the post, it could have been stopped. just look at all the defenders stopped and ball watching as well, not good enough at this level.

......and whats more we had ten players in the penalty area they had six, so please no more excuses about having a man sent off. Standing still and ball watching doesn't cut it with me, unless of course you are my age then that's different.

Last night again, Fury had a couple of corners and we had one man on the post nearest the corner taker. It seems to be what Adelaide do, but it looks terrible if we get wrong.

This and also if you watch the replay you'll see Sigmond get IN FRONT of Robbie Cornthwaite and then jump UNCONTESTED to head the goal.

Yes, you beat me to it.....Melbourne heart corner no -one on the back post and WHAM they score it is 1-1 with less than a few minutes left and they have the momentum.

WTF! Coolen is happy with the team performance SORRY! What team performance we were outplayed all night and we scored against the run of play.

Melbourne heart deserved their win as they attacked us FFS! we are supposed to do that we were the home team.

Not impressed!!!

Couldn't believe we continued with this terrible zonal defense in the box - it is like we are relying on their set piece taker to put in a crap delivery rather than defend it properly.
