The boys played well , however if that’s our attack then we are in trouble, and I known u all will say we had this player and that player out , but in reality then has not produced anything anyway , we reall need a class striker and we have if we had one , we would have easily won that game , clough really needs to up his game , he is a good player but gee he takes the wrong option too many times .
We do have one, unfortunately he was called up to the Aus U20’s.

I’m really struggling to understand this set in concrete faith you seem to have in Jovanovic. Imo he’s very much a work in progress and if we are relying on him for a big goal haul this season we could be in trouble.

Goodwin would be a much more likely source based on what little we’ve seen of him. He’s much sharper in the box than Luka. But then the big question mark over Archie is how many games are we going to get out of him ?

Unless Clough, Ayoubi and Mauk etc. start chipping in with more than the odd one here and there then we’re in for a lot more frustration similar to Saturday night once the season starts.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Carl played White up front as a statement to the club – “give me another striker !” Why else wouldn’t he play one of the more attacking midfielders up there ?
Because his finishing is very good, probably even better than Hiroshi, he has a great technique, can create his own chances and he has a good goals to minutes ratio in the AL for someone his age. He is also far too good for the NPL.

I’m fairly confident that as long as nothing goes drastically wrong, he will get a Socceroos cap within the next few years.

Well, I didn’t see any of his NPL career but a record of 33 goals in 39 games would suggest that you’re at least right about one thing – he’s too good for that level.

But 7 in 33 in the A League isn’t anything to write home about, and to suggest that he’s a better finisher than Hiro - I’m sorry but that’s well wide of the mark from what I’ve seen.

I really hope he goes onto to match your lofty predictions but it’s going to take a steep upward curve in his progression.

Serious question – you’re not his Dad are you ? Brother ? mate ? or (I should probably ask just not to appear sexist)…Mum ?

I feel this sums up my thoughts. I really hope he can be that player, but I can't see it on current form (and particularly if he's going to play as a lone striker).

My recollection of his best work was when he played off another CF.

I'm rapidly losing confidence in Archie being that CF, so we need another option. Surely there is someone in the NPL we can pinch?

Firstly I’m not related to him at all, not so I know him.

Secondly, his goals to minutes ratio for someone is age is good. A goal every 190 mins (so a goal just about every two full games).

And secondly, Hiroshi’s finishing with his feel, bar his purple patch at the end of last season was pretty average. It’s pretty obvious when you see the quality of Luka’s goals both in the first team and the NPL that he’s a better finisher. He also scored a brace for the Aus U20 team last night as well.

The one criticism I have of Luka is that during first team games, he goes missing for long periods. That for me is his biggest weakness.

Obviously disappointing result but I think the performance was good and on another day one of the decent chances the side created goes in. There are still good players to return to the XI as well as more to gain from players in the XI who haven't 100% hit their stride yet.
