"Adelaide United’s Australia Cup 2024 Quarter Final clash with Western Sydney Wanderers will take place on Thursday 12 September at ServiceFM Stadium at 7pm."
This makes no sense to me. Thursday night will take about 2k off the attendance with it being the main training night for seniors and juniors at all levels. Playing at that tin pot stadium that's a nightmare to get in and out of will probably take another 1,000 off.
Wednesday night at Hindmarsh, even with the Eastern Stand closed, we'd be looking at a healthy crowd and a decent atmosphere that might have given us the edge we needed.
Disappointing call by whoever made it.

not sure why marden wasn’t considered… but hindmarsh is a no go, as the pitch is getting resurfaced

I'm disappointed it's not at Hindmarsh too, but if it's what we have to do to get our usual great surface during the season. OK.
And if Hindmarsh is out, then I don't think it matters if it's Marden or Service FM Stadium.
From a football perspective it's probably politically a good idea to play nice with FFSA.
Actually, what I'm cheesed off about is .... that I now won't be able to go at all.
It was initially listed to play on Wednesday 11th - so I moved a scheduled monthly work meeting, so that I could go.
Now it's been moved to the Thursday, it clashes with another scheduled monthly work meeting that I can't change at such late notice.

I like that these games which would be unlikely to draw more than 5K to Hindmarsh go to smaller grounds. Last time I attended the AU v Adel City game there the vibe was good. Obviously there are constraints on where these games can go with things like tv broadcast. But I'd love to see all the NPL clubs get these games from time to time. Sure its a pain to get to some of these grounds if you live the other side of town or parking isn't ideal. But its one game a season usually. I wonder if it would be possible maybe as a reward to the champion NPL club from last year this game gets given to that club to host and hopefully gain a nice little bonus income.
Time to Djbate!

I disagree.
The NPL teams can earn their day in the sun with a good run in the cup themselves, especially if they draw A League opposition with the locked in home game. United should be making the most of the home ground advantage (assuming it’s available) that comes with a home draw against an A League team. I think we would have got more than 5k at Coopers for this match if it was Wednesday night.
We already help the local teams out with the pre-season friendlies.

I'd prefer Marden but Gepps X is good too. Looking forward to it.
All I need is some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine.

Yeah fair point on the home ground advantage. Maybe if the grand plans for the Playford training facility ever come true there will be stands there and the games could potentially be held where they train should a game at Hindmarsh not be viable. But considering how little Hindmarsh is used outside of the A-L season I would guess any decent fixtures would be worth it for them.I like that these games which would be unlikely to draw more than 5K to Hindmarsh go to smaller grounds. Praying for some fresh blood in the squad for this one. First 2 outings have been pretty unimaginative up front.
