Gombau
Probably been posted somewhere already, but I saw this on the red army Facebook page. Not sure who it is or how credible they are, but I must admit I'd be sad if he coaches another HAL team..
PS. first time starting a thread on a forum in about 5 years, so apologies if I've not put this in the correct spot.
Re: Gombau to Melbourne city FC?
Suspected it when he left.
Absolutely devastating.
He will do very well and I look forward to him winning lots of trophies there because he will have some financial backing.

Re: Gombau to Melbourne city FC?
The guy is just a Melb City supporter so grain of salt.
Hypothetically if it were to happen, would he be considered a bigger traitor than Flores?
Obviously the fact that Flores went to Victory was a big part of it for me but if Gombau came back to City the excuse "my wife doesn't want to live in Australia as it's too far from Spain" would be exposed as a bigger lie in my opinion.

True. Won't get wound up until it actually happens. The guy is just a Melb City supporter so grain of salt.

But there's been whispers of other reasons why he left. Player pay disputes, lack of funds provided to purchase players, etc.
I won't boo him. Absolutely love the bloke.

I don't know about booing but his rep would be tarnished in my eyes. Part of his charisma is that he seems like a genuine guy.
I still tend to think he is and this is just a desperate hope of a struggling city fan.

I think his wife was finding it pretty tough here, my partner works in childcare and looked after there oldest daughter, they are genuinely kind people (they even gave us a personalised playing shirt for our new born baby) but I think she missed home, she'd go home for the entire australian winter.. and didn't seem to have to many friends here in adelaide.
I definitely won't boo him, but I'd feel a little second best to Melbourne city. and that would shit me.

Re: Gombau to Melbourne city FC?
We all know the real reason Gombau left. He backed the players in the pay dispute, Griffin didn't like that as he openly called the players greedy. Gombau didn't want to put up with Griffin trying to divide the players and the management, so he left.
we da best

Yeah I've heard a similar story. I have no doubt he had run-ins with his Griffin and others but I just can't see it being the main reason.I think his wife was finding it pretty tough here, my partner works in childcare and looked after there oldest daughter, they are genuinely kind people (they even gave us a personalised playing shirt for our new born baby) but I think she missed home, she'd go home for the entire australian winter.. and didn't seem to have to many friends here in adelaide.

Speak for yourself, "we" know nothing of the sort. It's all just speculation. We all know the real reason Gombau left. Complicated route to get to Melbourne, non?

Hard not to get the feeling there is rot at the top of the club. If JG goes to another australian club it will pretty much confirm it for me.
Re: Gombau to Melbourne city FC?
If it happens I envision myself taking time away from football for the rest of the season. As weird as it may sound the complete lack of transparency, honesty and general just everyone being good people in the sport has added up to a general disappointed miasma around the game.

The little time i slent with mr gombau we spoke how different it is for his wife here, that in spain when the sun goes down you go out and socialise until late. Here people just go home and relax. He also talked about how hard it was to be away from his 2 daughters.cthis was 12 months before josep left so it certainly was not a new thing he cooked up just to leave.
If josep does join city then i feel it places a HUGE spotlight on griffin and the the little spot fires he has been involved in. I mean come on, the guy was publicly arguing with his own players in regards to match day payments and the squad were forced to write an open letter to the fans and state their case.
As usual with this club, the problem is at the top. Ive feen supporting this club far to long to ignore the signs.

It's football, not a church organized antique fair.
