Australian football has been revealed as an outlier from the most popular competitions around the globe after a rule change that could decide which clubs win the A-Leagues premierships.

The A-Leagues will from this season turn to total wins to rank the placings on the men’s and women’s tables when teams are level on points.

Wellington now go top having won one more game ( 6 wins, 2 draws, 2 losses) than MV, who are still undefeated with 5 wins, 5 draws and a better goal difference.

Go figure ...

Stupid change. Now not aligned with professional leagues around the world.

Why did they feel the need to change this? Have we ever had a reason to?

I also don't understand the point of it to be honest.

I completely disagree with the change.

I can only assume the reasoning is that it reduces the incentive to play for a draw instead of pushing for a win.

This is a hilarious farce.

Given we don't play all teams the same number of times it's arguably unfair.

It will likely be irrelevant in deciding a season but still a completely unnecessary change.

It's hard not to be cynical about this league. I thought it being run by the clubs was supposed to improve things - remember the grand final only in Squidly debacle?

Sadly, the APL have a management culture of non-consultative structural change. It all too often results in entirely avoidable debacles that waste goodwill, time and energy.
