A-League Men 2022/23

Postby EdDog Wed Jun 29, 2022 7:18 pm

6 weeks prior to the World Cup. Gives the A-League boys just enough time to hit their strides.

Would have liked it to start in September but this works for the likes of Goody, McLaren etc. Image

The season kicks off right after a FIFA international window. Socceroos will play away in New Zealand. I'd love to see the game kick the season off with a real bang and get a big nation of interest here to face the Socceroos like England or Brazil. It would be such a great advert for the game and it can be coupled with a big A-League promotion to flag the season is kicking off to a large captive audience.

8 red cards in the opening 20 games.

1 red nearly every second game.

Is this a joke? Who wants to see this?

It's embarrassing. Hopefully it's one of those had to get worse before it got better scenarios but the referees and VAR on this league are a joke. There is a widespread perception of favouritism/bias for SFC, MV and MCY that has happened completely organically. Something has to be done.

All grand final games (men and women) for the next 3 years will be played in Sydney, no matter the teams.

What a joke. Is this what we get with an expanded board and teams at the table

What will they do if it’s a Western United v Macarthur GF and they get a crowd of 10,000?

Stupid idea.

You can halve that crowd if it ends up being Perth v Welly.

They're trying to make it a national event like the AFL GF - we are so far off that it's not funny. It just makes you wonder about their perception of where the game actually is on the sporting map.

Absolutely clueless :-x

Plus, I had AFL fans saying to me that they were jealous that we were able to host a grand final with 50k plus, something that they will never be able to experience.

This is a terrible decision and one that will.piss of the majority of their stakeholders.

This is all about sponsorship, corporate $s and East coast bias.

If they want to have a national cup venue, make it for the FFA cup in a stadium that other teams don't normally play at. And make the league winner the first past the post but that is a different discussion for another time.

Have Adelaide United made a statement? Other clubs have made exceedingly weak statements against this, but at least its something.

This is so crappy.
Just for the money the greedy bastards.

No mention of how much they sold it for that I could see.
But "Destination NSW" estimates up to $26m could be injected into the state's economy ...
What is that worth over three years?
Week long football related events..?
WTF, I just want the farken football!

The APL said it expected tens of thousands of fans to descend on Sydney for the finals, with Destination NSW claiming the deal could inject $26m into the state’s economy.

The NSW sport minister, Alister Henskens, claimed the state had the greatest supporter base and the most passionate fans in the country, along with the highest level of football participation and the best venues.

“This new week-long football event will provide football and sports fans with an experience unique to all other codes and cement the A-League grand finals amongst the very best sporting events on our national sporting calendar,” Henskens said.

Presumably in agreement with it.

Goody has come out and said he doesn't support it.
