A new dawn in Australian football is beckoning after proposed governance reforms were rubber-stamped by Fifa, sounding the death knell for outgoing Football Federation Australia chairman Steven Lowy and his board.

And proponents for radical change are increasingly confident they will get their way at a special general meeting of FFA next month without the need for further intervention from the global body.

Personal interest wins out again.

We see it in politics and in all sorts of other places. The desire of people in leadership to forgo their own interests in order to serve the common good is probably at the lowest level I've ever seen in Western democratic countries.

In what way are those opposed to the FFAs iron fist serving personal interests?

There is very little democracy in the current set up.

Let's wait and see. Maybe I'm misjudging this and the owners of Melbourne City, Melbourne Victory, Sydney FC and WSW really don't want to funnel all the A-league money into their own clubs. Maybe they do want lots of the A-league money shared out to grass roots football and women's football and the National teams and smaller clubs like Adelaide ... and pigs might fly.

I think that is a huge misrepresentation of what the aleague and Npl clubs are asking for.

Im not sure how city, sfc abd victory could somehow funnel the aleagues money into their bank accounts, apart from being illegal..

Its hard to have a balanced discussion tbh

If they get their way, the first thing they'll do is make the A-league completely separate from the FFA. Then they'll have the power over the A-league revenue. That's the whole purpose of this exercise.

The A-league clubs will decide how much of it they'll release for grassroots, women's football, and the National teams. They'll decide how much they keep to split between the A-league clubs. They'll decide how the money gets shared out among the A-league clubs (for example, will everyone get the same, or will the top sides get much more). For all I know the NPL clubs may be being promised a second division, but how much money do you think the A-league clubs will release to support it when it will cost them money out of their own pockets?
