A-League - The safe sport for spectators

Worried about crowd violence at sport? Don't head to the cricket, head to the A-League.
It was a dark day for the game. More than 90 spectators were thrown out of the stadium for a range of offences. Eleven were ejected for discharging missiles, while many others were intoxicated and used offensive language. The very next day, a fan breached security and ran on to the field, where he had to be restrained by stewards, disrupting play at a crucial juncture.

No, we're not talking about A-League "football hooligans" here. Instead, we're referring to day one of cricket's Boxing Day Test match and the Big Bash League game between Sydney Sixers and Melbourne Stars at the SCG on Sunday.

While cricket fans caused problems, the FFA did not receive one report of any incident from police or security across all five A-League games this weekend. Before this weekend, 103 people were removed from stadiums during the 58 previous games of the competition.
