Out of the blue to be honest despite the very poor form.
I wonder what happened?
The game against the 'Nix seems to have been the catalyst, however the abruptness of the decision suggests some uncomfortable management discussions over the past week.

He's a decent coach and should be looking overseas for his next career move.

This is a bit general, but I think looking at how Brisbane are fairing. Cases like this are why the FFA are so slow at expansion. Especially outside Sydney and Melb. Brisbane on the back of three straight championships should have a pretty strong club as far as talent identification and crowds. Part of their issue is that the only viable option they have for a stadium is one that is probably twice as big as they need so match day experience is always poor.
I think the FFA would look at a club like Brisbane who have had so many seasons of massive success and still struggle to get 10k to games regularly, would be a large concern for them and would cast serious doubt over expanding into markets like that.

True, the FFA do (did?) take that approach, though local derbies create energy and hence are synergetic.
