HAL on FTA TV

CHANNEL Nine wants to screen Saturday night A-League games and go head-to-head with the AFL on Seven.
http://www.news.com.au/sport/football/c ... 7364095992

I understand people want to see the deal done right. But I can't for the life of me understand why people say they don't want it to happen purely because of the C7 saga in the NSL days.

Do people really think the FFA will throw the millions of dollars Fox are giving football to go back to the 11:30pm highlights show on Tuesdays.
I think those people think the FFA are as dumb as they are.

The trouble is free to air networks are still taking potshots at the game while lining up for big off season friendlies.

For example i can think of at least 2 networks who have taken to twitter encouraging people to record hooligan activity and send it to them, even explaining to their followers to film it with their phone on the side to make it better for tv viewing.

Im really on the fence about football becoming too mainstream. The true blue brigade have an idea of how sport should be and will try force football into a hole which it does not fit.

For example it took our owners 2 seasons to realise you cant force football fans to be more like the afl.

Im probably more interested in attracting the euro snobs and NPL fans to the aleague as at least we can still keep some kind of traditional non plastic football culture.

But then again im probably just being greedy and dont want to share the north end with merc and baz and hear them talking about skidz in their vn mate

I don't trust them because they don't love the game.
Simple.
But that's just my opinion.

(When will they show their commercials?)

If it has to be done, the best way I've seen to advertise during play is to minimise the screen by and inch or two at the bottom/sides/top and have an advert here. You don't lose any of the game, it's just slightly smaller for the length of the ad.

Obviously cannot be a fully featured ad but I would argue it's more effective as you are directly looking at the TV (most ad breaks serve as toilet/food/drinks breaks).

That and just cram as much advertising on the fencing and stands as possible.

Or only have a 2 minute halftime show, I can't see them having any commentators I would want to listen to- so just like fox then... lol

But that't thing. Do Fox really love the game? Or did they when they first made the gamble to pick the HAL up?
I think there might be a bit of an awkward "honeymoon" period where football needs to earn its stripes but as long as they manage the broadcasts as well as Fox have been doing they should be fine. Its a great product so there is no reason why it couldn't work.

Fair enough Stuckey but Fox is a dedicated Sports channel and they need to show all sports the right level of respect.

I don't think we need to fear a FTA channel that does not also show AFL because the A-league would become a competitor and the AFL will have no power at that channel ... PROVIDED, Foxtel still enjoy their current ability to show all games, live. The big mistake would be to limit Foxtel.

The incredible transformation of the National Basketball League (NBL) continues to gain pace in the lead up to the season opener with the announcement on Monday of a new deal that will get the sport onto free-to-air with the Nine Network.

It'll be interesting to see how this goes. Could be a good think for the FFA to follow.

ABC2 slammed for ‘worst football coverage in the history of Australia’
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/footb ... um=Twitter

Sounds like ABC has just talked themselves out of any FFA interest.

I can't believe there are people working for national TV networks that thought most of this was going to be OK.

There are times when I am glad there is no tv where I am at the moment. By the sounds of it this was one of them.

Saw some of the pregame and HT coverage and I agree it was the worst I had seen.

Had to turn it off.

Completely unprofessional. Disrespectful to Sydney FC and the HAL.

An all round joke.

Its sad as I thought the concept had merit.
IMO it made sense to have Liverpool legends taking part. These friendlies all too often have youth players who won't feature all EPL season. So for Sydney fans to see Stevie G and co taking part with the likes of Sturidge and Firmino was probably a big highlight.

There was nothing wrong with the game or players (apart from it being a typical boring exhibition).

The beef everyone had was with the pregame and HT dross that a high school media team could present better.

Channel 10 will show saturday night games and finals games simulcast on their channel 'One' starting 2017/18. At least its a HD channel! SBS only just starting showing the friday games in HD and now it seems they'll lose them.
