2015 FFA Cup

Postby Stuckey Wed Nov 26, 2014 1:14 pm

The Westfield FFA Cup will become a truly national competition next year with a club from the Northern Territory to participate in the Preliminary Rounds and be granted a direct slot into the Round of 32.

Although its sad the SA still only have one spot, its great that Metro bring it up to 2 spots!

Also nice to see NT getting a spot as well.

Already looking forward to next year's comp and this one isn't even finished!

We can argue about how many spots each state/ region should get until the cows come home but i feel its a huge indication of where the next a-league franchises will come from.

There needs to be at least one more Qld team. There are 4.7 million people in the state!

Would love to see an NYL side out of Darwin full to the brim with indigenous footballers.

True but they are not concentrated all in one region which makes it hard. Would love to see the fury mk2 have a cup run though, the far north definitely deserve it!

Credit where its due though, having a team from the NT is huge , especially considering how vast their leagues are around the territory.

And how many other professional national competitions have a NT representative in it? I can't think of one?..

Nash - No national comps have one.

I think QLD blew its chances at another club for a while. the Gold Coast was the most viable option and that got destroyed by Palmer.
NQ wont work because they don't have the population and would suffer much like Central coast is now.

I think the next addition should be coming from Tasmania or canberra

I still can't understand this notion that because Clive buggered up Gold Coast another HAL club can't ever return there.
I think if the HAL and especially WSW have taught us anything its that if a product is marketed and encouraged to be engaged enough it can bring people together and work. Gold Coast is the 6th highest populated area in Australia and from what I hear an area that seriously lacks a sense of community.
Sounds like another Western Sydney if ever I've heard one. But there is the added bonus that Gold Coast is a massive tourism destination for Asians and the area is largely invested in by Asians. What better advertisement for the Gold Coast to Asians then a Gold Coast football club playing in Asia with visit or invest Gold Coast on their kits.
Gold Coast like the rest of the country is just going to have to continue to wait patiently when the powers that be and money men finally cotton on to football's enormous potential. Hopefully WSW have helped us there again.

THIS year’s FFA Cup final will take on a much-higher profile as a stand-alone, marquee fixture - to be played on Saturday, November 7 and with no A-League games scheduled that weekend.

Sounds like they are really trying to push the final as a day for all football fans to sit back and enjoy like the FA Cup or what the AFL GF is the AFL fans.

I hear an NPL club will still get a 'safe' passage thru to the semi which I think takes credibility away and is a bit patronising to the clubs as well.

We did it the hard way last year.

We will have an easier draw this year for sure.

finish top 4 this year and we are guaranteed a non A-League side straight up if the draw remains as last FFA cup.

That's what happened last season has anything changed?

According to this its the 4 semi finalists that make the Pot A.

Just another little bonus for making the semis. (Although that didn't help WSW!)

would be good to play a state league side, but yeah the risk of an embarrassing loss is always a worry. especially as it's pre season for us. man I would love to win it again.
