Bugger, I was hoping to see both Croydon and South Hobart make it through. Palm Beach Sharks seem to be playing with the idea of an A-League license at the back of their minds.
So were South Melbourne. Does that make their Cup match the Derby of Aspiring A-League Entrants?

When do we find out our next opposition? And could it possibly be an A-League team?
They'll do the draw soon after the last matchday next week. And yes there is a chance we can draw an A-League team, its small as there is only one A-League vs A-League match in the round of 16, but then again we did get it last year so who knows, otherwise theres a much bigger chance that will draw a state league team.

Round of 16 Draw Process

1 Pot B (6 balls drawn alternatively out of Pot B.)
Home then Away for the three (3) Member Federation v Member Federation matches

2 Pot A (2 balls drawn alternatively out of Pot A)
Home then Away for the one (1) Hyundai A-League v Hyundai A-League match

3 Pot B & A (remaining balls will be drawn alternatively from Pot B and Pot A)
Home (Pot B.) then Away (Pot A) for the four (4) Member Federation v Hyundai A-League matches

But we should still avoid the other "seeded" teams ala Sydney, Victory & City yeah?

Any reason why sorrento v sydney was played at NIB stadium.

Sure their home pitch may not have had the recources to broadcast a live game but there would have been other local pitches up to standard. After all this is what the ffa cup is about right?

I cant help but wonder if it wasnt arnies team they were playing it would have been on a pitch fit for grazing cows

I'm certain it's up to the home team to find a suitable ground if their's isn't up to it.
I guess they thought being SFC, NIB would be worthwhile.
Hopefully the AEC are gunning for the Metrostars game if they line up against HAL opposition.
Although Marden is the obvious choice.

I reckon Hindmarsh would be a bit too big, Marden is good little venue tho.

Hah! Indeed.....I'm sure the thought has been sitting in the mind of Palm Beach ever since the demise of Gold Coast. I'd rate Palm Beach a better chance that South Melbourne though.

Just missed it on TV, but it sounds like Izzo has just had a bit of a mare in goal for the Mariners. Nix 1-0 up

Shocker, SBS the world game just put it on facebook. Poor bloke, disappointing way to start for a new club.

Ouch not pretty. Luckily he won't cop all the blame as CCM missed a penalty as well.

So Nix, WSW, Perth and Oakleigh win thru. I was actually considering going to Oakleigh game pity I missed it!

R16 draw is tomorrow arvo 4pm EST

Who would we like to see AU come up against.
Being selfish I'll take an away game in at Oakleigh!
Personally I'd rather avoid Metro till later.
After everything that club has achieved they deserve a big win at home.

Something Kenny Lowe said about these early rounds being a good lead up to the A-League season and that he would prefer an A-League side as is hard for Perth to get pre-seadon games against over out in WA. While we do have a couple lined up no doubt, I wouldn't be too disappointed if we got an A-League team. If we want an easy win, than sure give us an NPL team to smash.

I'd rather an 'easier' opponent. The HAL season is still at least a month after the R16 matches so I think any preparation based on that match would be lost in that time anyway.

Hume, oakleigh, palm beach or Sydney United are top of my list.

If metrostars draw a HAL team, I hope it's us.
