ANZ Stadium $350 million redevelopment

Postby Stuckey Tue Nov 18, 2014 8:48 am

A $350 million redevelopment plan for a fully-roofed ANZ Stadium would enable sports fans to sit within five metres of the action, with new grandstands turning Sydney’s biggest venue into a true rectangular ground.

Under the ambitious plan revealed to The Daily Telegraph, the former Olympic stadium would also be surrounded by a dynamic entertainment zone filled with bars, cafes and restaurants.

It'll be amazing if it works.
Hopefully it creates a great home ground for WSW in the future. I'd love to see the Sydney derbies played there just to start with.

wasn't this proposed in our WC bid?

either way - its good to see.
would like to see how the food/drinks ordered to the seats work out. they used this for the first time in a stadium in the states a month or 2 ago - it was a disaster!

It seems like an absolute ridiculous thing to do. Obviously everyone would be putting those orders in at breaks in play. Then they would expect those products delivered in that break. Unless they had (for example) 2,000 people delivering food and drink at a stadium like Hindmarsh it wouldn't work.
The key is training staff enough to create a streamlined service. Also preparing popular items ready to go. I can't understand why somewhere like Coopers for example doesn't pre-pour a decent amount of beers just before half time to reduce serve time.

One thing I've always wondered whether it would work is vending machines. Sell drinks and snacks in loads of vending machines. These days machines like that have paywave so getting change is no longer an issue.
I would have them behind roller door so when the game is drawing to an end and the likelihood of aggressive fans is higher these machines are out of sight.
Surely that would allow more staff to focus on hot food and alcohol which obviously needs staff to serve.

Oh God that would be a disaster. I used to work quite close to ANZ Stadium (adjacent to the Silverwater Jail) during the olympics and for a couple of years after and it was a ghost town. There's just nothing near it.

Unless there's an event on, there's no reason to go anywhere near the Olympic site. How can that be sustainable for any business who wants to open up there?
