I hated the idea of a red bull team in australia and the tought of adelaide red bulls made me sick.

But taking a a look at RB Salzburg, RB Leipzig and New York red bulls i have to say from the outside looking in that these are very much functioning football clubs with football culture.

All 3 get some of the highest attendances in their respective leagues despite being previously small clubs or in NYs case non exsistant.

I think its possible RB may have an ability to engage with fans and create a genuine not so plastic feel to their clubs.

Maybe sevengoals coukd give a better insight into rb salzburg.
From a quick look at the wikipedia pages of RB Salzburg and RB Leipzig, Adelaide United would all but cease to exist. They would do everything they could to make it seem like they were creating a new club to take the place of Adelaide United in the A-league. It would make the change from Melbourne Heart to Melbourne City look like no change at all if they could do what they would seemingly would intend. Perhaps the reason they seem to have gone from taking over a club to starting a new club is that would not be able to replace an existing club in the way they desire.
You have it right Ghost.

Adelaide United as we know it would cease to exist.
The RB Adelaide club, as Shin points out, would have the best quality material to work with, eg. players, trainers and management but the club would exist purely as a marketing vehicle for Red Bull energy drink.

Taking over Austria Salzburg and turning it into RB Salzburg split the supporters but has won them 7 League Championships since their inception in the 2005/06 season.
Nevertheless they have failed every season to make the Champions League Group stage which has in turn lead to a trainer carousel.
They have had 9 trainers in the same period.

Taking over SSV Markranstädt, turning it into RB Leipzig and storming up though the German Football leagues has turned the East German club into the pariahs of German football.
They are truly hated among the hard core supporters groups throughout Germany.

It is understood that $5m of the deal hinges on A-League expansion, with that money only forthcoming if new teams are added in Melbourne, Sydney and/or Brisbane.
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/footb ... 739c2e2d05

Hopefully this gets things moving.
Not surprising that Fox is gunning for this as they discuss expansion non-stop. As its clear they want to reach out to the markets they want.
I think if people want a indication of where the new clubs will be, look at the areas fox want to expand to. For me South Syd and suburban Melbourne would probably be the most obvious ones from that point of view.

It also highlights that the only people who feel Adelaide needs a 2nd side is a select few from Adelaide, and anyone bidding for a second side isn't going to gain much (if any) help from the money men of the game.

Adelaide 11? It seems to be an Adelaide City bid however I am light on details.

EDIT: Seems to be West Adelaide........and I am still light on details.

There was something behind the Advertiser pay wall that referred to "West's bid for A-league" but that's as far as I got, just reading the header.

West Adelaide with an A-league bid, far out.
Where is the money coming from?

At least there is something going on during the "long, long off season of death". :D

West Adelaide are the only SA club with "show of interest".
I would think it would be only for the experience of going through the process.
I could not in my wildest dreams imagine West Adelaide getting a license.

Out of those 15 applicants, I'd choose South Melbourne and Wollongong.*

* Of course, I know no details about any of the applications ... but when has that ever stopped any of us offering our insights. :D

more info.

https://www.theguardian.com/football/20 ... adline-day

And it was not a typo in the previous report, it really is West Adelaide making a show of interest from SA...

I think a team in Tasmania would be very interesting as it would also give the island "national competition" which I believe they are craving for.

(Stick it up the AFL as well. )

Suspiciously round number. Why would you need $100million for an A-League club? Unless the budget is related to development activities that the club could unleash, even still.....

Is there any confirmed source or just reporting in The Advertiser?

I think when figures like that are thrown around. I would imagine that the net value of the organisation involved may equal somewhere near that figure. But even City group haven't put that sort of money in an existing HAL club.
As they say you have to be in it to win it so fair play to WA. It would be wonderful to see a rivalry develop and generate interest. Which is always the selling point of any hopeful club from SA. But I always question where the fans are going to come from to make that new club viable without cannibalising a significant portion of AU's fan base? The new club can always say that's tough. But I doubt the FFA will see it that way and would be very cautious to bring in a new club at the risk of the existing ones.
