Newcastle take on Juve

Postby Stuckey Tue Aug 12, 2014 9:58 am

The Newcastle Jets will be given a rare opportunity to take on one of the world's most iconic football teams when they face off against Italian powerhouse Juventus in a behind closed doors friendly on Wednesday.

It doesn't say why its being played behind closed doors, I hope there is a reason for it. Otherwise its a ridiculously massive waste of an opportunity for Newcastle. Even something whipped up at the last minute would still attract a decent crowd.

I'm only guessing here but I'd say that the FFA would've had an exclusive deal with Juventus that the All-stars game is the only one played in front of a crowd.

Wouldn't surprise me. More self interest from the FFA.

Should of had a members only invited to watch the game scenario where anyone who purchases membership before Wednesday can go. Would have been fantastic for their membership numbers.

More the point it's probably related to that shitty $250k fee the FFA want for international friendlies.

I wonder if they would have still had to pay it if they just threw the gates open for the fans. Would have been a great marketing tool.
