Daniel De Silva set for record transfer to Italian club

Postby Stuckey Sat Mar 22, 2014 4:56 pm

PERTH Glory youngster Daniel De Silva is on the verge of a dream to transfer to an unnamed major Italian club, with the A-League club said to receiving a record transfer fee for a player leaving the A-League.

Glory announced on Saturday that De Silva has been granted permission to travel overseas to consider an opportunity in Europe, understood to be a club in Italy’s top flight.

De Silva has already left the country, accompanied by his family, to talk to key representatives of this club.

The 17-year-old reportedly came close to joining Italian side Catania last year, but it was ultimately rejected by his family and any new deal is likely to involve De Silva being loaned back to Glory next season.

Great news for Perth. I hope it goes thru that he will stay with Perth the following season still. Although a fat lot of good that will do as the kid is 20 years to young to make the first team.

I would love to see Perth spend as much money on keeping someone like DaSilva in the league as they do on injured old donkeys like Gallas and Deane.

I think the current HAL transfer record is $1.3m of Rostyn Griffiths from CCM to Guangzhou R&F.

He's fairly young for Seria A though. Sounds like a trip to the youth squad. I wish him well though would be happier if I heard he was off to Belgium or the Netherlands.

Roma have got an excellent scouting system, so they must really see something in this kid.

Wow! I just worry for Aussie kids going to massive clubs like this. Obviously he's mile away from featuring for the first XI.
Its great that he gets to stay in the HAL at least a season longer but considering he's only 17 and he's not even a regular player for the Glory HAL side. Maybe a little more time in a league he knows would be better for him?
Although I don't think Perth have the greatest track record on playing developing youth players so maybe hitting the road will be good for him.
