FFA reducing foreign player numbers

FFA today confirmed that each Hyundai A-League club will have a limit of five (5) visa players for next season, 2014/15. In the following season 2015/16 the limit will be reduced to four (4) visa players.

A feasibility study will be conducted for possible future implementation of a “3 + 1” model, under which one visa player is Asian.
Good to see also. Seems so silly to have clubs signing 5 overseas players only to not be able to use two of them if the club makes the ACL.
I think forcing HAL clubs to scout and develop Aussies is really what this league should be about so encouraging this is important.

Agree - that's 11 extra Australian players in the league within 2 years which is sound long term planning. I think if we were looking to expand the competition again though some extra foreign players would come in handy so not to spread the talent pool too thin.
