A-LEAGUE head Damien de Bohun says the domestic national competition will not shut down during January’s AFC Asian Cup.

The Asian Football Confederation’s most important men’s tournament kicks off with the Socceroos hosting a yet-to-be-determined opponent at Melbourne’s Rectangular Stadium on January 9, 2015.

The tournament concludes with the Asian Cup final at Stadium Australia on January 31 with the 32 matches from 16 nations exclusive to venues in Victoria, NSW, ACT and Queensland.

I wonder how the AFC will feel about that?
2015 will certainly be a busy year for Australia football!

Adelaide will have home games for the whole period since we have no international fixtures

Only 3 out of the 5 stadiums selected usually host HAL games so it won't be that bad.

Yeah but its stupid. As someone pointed out on twitter, we wanted the AFL and NRL to cease during the World Cup if we won it, but we won't even cease our own competition during the Asian Cup...

 Val has jumped the gun again! Looks like the FFA haven't actually decided whether they will play HAL games yet or not. Can this bloke get anything right?

Isn't it a bit impractical to stop the A League for 4 weeks? Won't that affect the form and condition of the teams. I can't see why it couldn't be played concurrently. Australia will be saturated in football and surely that would be a good thing.

I think that would be the FFA's thought but I imagine the AFC not wanting anything to distract from the Asian Cup. But yes I agree it would be a footballing feast!

It comes down to what fox are happy with. FFA has contractual agreements with them as they are the league broadcasters.

I'm happy for a football overload. Aleague / wc / ac

hmmmm...I'm planning on road tripping up the east coast to watch all group games but wasn't banking on missing united home games?
I also wouldn't mind a football overload if that is possible

When the Asian Cup was announced and venues decided the season ended in February not April. The competition was 8 teams, about to grow to 10 and supposedly 11 and 12 in the near future, possibly more. carving out an extra 4 weeks would have had neglible effect.

Also if you are the type that worries about competition between sports, *International* cricket was struggling and the extremely succesful 20/20 domestic competition that currently runs in the applicable part of the year wasn't even a pipe dream at that stage.

I hope they cease the competition for 4 weeks. People from WA, SA & NZ should be encouraged to travel to the East Coast to support the competition and catch a few games.
