Sadly for this season these clubs are the only side able to win into the FFA Cup proper. Collegiate leagues weren't able to be organised in time and due to the divide between the FFSA and SAASL those clubs aren't involved or considered.
Which then creates another issue because the spots of clubs invited into the FFA Cup are based purely on numbers of participants. Since a massive amount of our footballers in this state play in the SAASL none of those players are considered and our participation levels are as low as ACT and Tasmania. So SA get 1 spot this season the rest of the spots are assorted as follows:
8 teams from New South Wales
4 teams from Victoria
4 teams from Queensland
2 teams from Western Australia
2 teams from Northern New South Wales
1 team from Tasmania
1 team from the Australian Capital Territory

Regardless this should be a wonderful tournament after 4 years of talk its great to see it finally under way. I'm really excited to see a few upsets and also see HAL squads get stretched a little more requiring sides to dive deeper into the NYL squads.
From what I gather the HAL sides start playing once the local cup comps are done and we have the final 32 sides. Hopefully we can see a all HAL clash so more local sides have a chance to continue.

A-League clubs enter the FFA Cup in July, with the final of the nationwide cup competition expected to take place in December. Football Federation Australia will announce full FFA Cup details later this month.

Good to see also in this story that Brisbane Roar's NPL side and the Malaysian club aren't allowed in the cup. I think that gives is more credibility.
Brisbane playing Brisbane as some stage would just be weird.

The announcement from the FFA is on at the moment. It is sounding very positive indeed and I am quite looking forward to it. I do like the way they have ensured that one of the non-A-League sides is guaranteed to make the semis. Should add some spice!

Looks good!

I'm not sure about this giant killer situation? Maybe to begin with it will be good to see local sides at the pointy end of the comp then revert back to a standard draw were everyone just gets picked out of a hat.

Don't like the seeding either. Risks becoming a Mickey Mouse competition.

It really could end up being a total disaster. I hope it doesn't, but what if all of the games including HAL teams are super lopsided? Pre-season games have looked pretty ugly in the past.

As far as the seeding goes, its not that much different from how the FA Cup works. The higher up the league food chain the team is, the later they enter the competition.

(The French Cup is all teams included right from round 1 though I believe, with the lower ranked team hosting the games).

Higher division teams get byes in the FA Cup early rounds but it is completely random once a team enters. Theres no attempt made to ration matches between top-tier teams.

There are arguments for the current format. None that really hold water for mine. One thing that is certain, anyone endorsing this cup format voids the right to object to finals on the grounds of tradition.

Hopefully this happens to begin with and the FFA learns from it. AU were beating sides 7-1 and 11-0 at the start of the season and AU weren't even doing well then!

I wonder how aleague sides will approach it?

Play half the youth league or try to win the whole thing? Nobody wants to be the first aleague club to lose to a local side in an official match.

So according to this link,http://www.pursuitofthecupau.com/#!howitworks/c4nz

A-league clubs who make the championship semi finals will play NPL clubs in the round of 32.

All other A-league clubs will be drawn against each other in the round of 32.

only 7 A-league clubs can possibly make it to the round of 16

5 A-league clubs can make the rounds of 8

3 A-league clubs can make the the Semi's

I actually do not mind it tbh. If i could change one thing it would be to seed A-league clubs in the round of 32 based on their Premiership positions not the championship.

This will help keep clubs and fans hungry even if the prem is out of reach.

Absolute Bullshit that NSW get get get 13 teams into the round of 32, SA only get 2 teams... thats one more club then ACT get. I thought this was about growing the game Australia wide.

East coast cup ?

On that website though it has how many clubs from each state are involved in the cup. Considering were less then ACT and NNSW I'd say its fair enough. Its up to the SAASL and FFSA to sort their shit out and come together. ATM none of the SAASL clubs are counted.
