I would assume there will be a stipulation that the acl spot goes the highest placed 1st division (a-league) club

I don't think so. If Adelaide City win the cup they'll be in the ACL from what I gather.

And fair enough.

I don't think Adelaide City are eligible as they're not a professional team. It's the reason why you don't see North Korea teams in any club comps. Last time I checked you needed something like 18 players on professional contracts to be eligible.

I also don't think the FFA cup winners will get the champions league spot but I know that's not a popular opinion.

I'm curious what the finer details are.

I would consider all NPL and State sides professional teams. Players sign a contract with obligations, are paid a wage and so on. Importantly the league is still a professional one, albeit not a big one. Amateur sides, obviously not.

Fairly sure many european leagues do not allow a cup winner into ecl if they are playing in the second division.

The cup winner will get a .5 spot in acl at best imo, failing to qualify will see them in the lower tier cup which was said to be a financial nightmare if an a-league club was forced to play

I really doubt an npl club will get a shot at the acl if they won

Marden Sports Complex in Adelaide’s north east will also field two matches with South Australian Federation Cup champions Adelaide City’s game against Western Sydney Wanderers on Tuesday 12 August 2014 to be held at the venue after Adelaide United meet the Wellington Phoenix there a week earlier.

Before a ball has even been kicked in the Football Federation Australia (FFA) Cup the competition has suffered at the hands of administrators who, through mismanagement and a desire to sanitise football in Australia, have ensured the competition enjoys a lower status than a friendly match that is largely devoid of meaning or benefit, other than acting as a cash cow for the FFA.

The "mini-me Blatters" , the dictators of the FFA refuse to understand the game's supporters, its traditions or its history.

It is their clumsy, heavy handed attempt to make the game "palatable" to a group of people who openly deride the game, its supporters and its culture as being foreign, un-Australian and anti-social, while increasingly pissing off the grassroots people who love and live for the game.

City indeed (obviously) wanted to play their FFA Cup match against WSW, but were as we know denied by the FFA. Why? According to City, the back perimeter fence at Oakden (their home ground for those uncertain), was 'marginally lower than required'.

Source: back few pages of the Messenger (The Gurus). The Gurus asked the above of the FFA, who 'shirked the question altogether'.
