Milligan will smash the A-League transfer record

Postby Stuckey Wed Jan 22, 2014 9:47 am

MARK Milligan will smash the A-League transfer record if Melbourne Victory accepts a $1.6m offer from UAE club Baniyas.

Victory is already sounding out possible replacements for the Socceroos defensive midfielder and a deal could be completed by the end of the week.

I wonder if the club is in a position to actually use that money to purchase a player?
Great news for the HAL that players and clubs a demanding that sort of cash. The more we focus on development of players the sooner this sort of money with just be the tip of the iceberg IMO.

I just wish he'd been allowed to go to Crystal Palace when they came-a-knockin' earlier in the season instead.

Is this a step up from the A-League? Good money for MV but would it be good for Milsy in a World Cup year?

I too wish he'd gone to Crystal Palace.

Don't think he's going. Baniyas has reportedly withdrawn their interest/offer now.

The money?

Another wasted player.

I've heard a number of people say that. But really the UAE league would IMO be of similar level to the HAL. So obviously they were planning to offer far more money then MV could so to Milligan he is just earning far more money for doing to same thing.
If he's playing then he should be in WC contention. But obviously it would have been a bit of a loss for the HAL. Unless MV could sign someone good with the fee?

What do you base this on?

I don't know whether it is or not - just interested to know how you might come to this conclusion.

Its is a presumption based on the national teams from that region being of a similar standard to the HAL assembled Socceroo squads generally. Also how their sides have faired in the ACL'S

Agree 7G. Sideways step playing-wise, and surely career-wise worse than staying in the A-League. Mind you this is the same bloke who has a history of walking out on clubs to trial overseas... then walking out on the clubs he's trialling at ... He's a good player but an absolute fucking mercenary, no bones about it. Had a good chuckle to myself when Melbourne wouldn't let him go to Palace (I'm not Milligan's biggest fan, by the way)...
All I need is some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine.
