Plans being made to reinstate expansion NQF into the HAL

Postby Stuckey Tue Jan 21, 2014 10:09 am

WHEN, and more importantly, where, is the right place to expand the Hyundai A-League?

It's a question that has spawned a thousand articles and debates. But if the football community of Townsville has its way, it'll be a case of back to the future by 2018 at the latest, with a very familiar name re-entering the fray.

Northern Fury has kept the football dream alive in the far north, after the region's A-League club was disbanded in 2011. Fury currently compete in the National Premier Leagues (Queensland) - but on Thursday, they will meet informally with FFA in Sydney, where they hope to be given a framework, to work towards regaining their senior league place.

Great news. The work that's being put in to keep the club alive is great. It amazing that they average 2.5k to games in the NPL. I really like that these plans a built up slowly and they aren't making the mistake of jumping back into something.

Agreed. I think everyone would love to see a return of the Fury.

It would certainly make sense. There's already some infrastructure there and a bit of a fan base (albeit a small one).

North Queensland and Canberra would get my vote.

Northern Fury are on the verge of signing a partnership with English Premier League football club West Ham United.

While not yet finalised, the Townsville Bulletin understands the Fury will enter an agreement with the London club through their international academy, which runs in North America and Oceania.

It will give the Fury opportunities to have regional academies across North Queensland, from where the best players will be invited to a national live-in camp with coaches from the Hammers' youth academy.

This will give their HAL hopes a boost I would say!

just came in here to add that article ^

great news! I don't think there would be many fans of the A-League that would be unhappy to have the Fury back. Their removal from the league was swift and surprising at the time, seemed cruel and unfair to all involved at the club to me.

I agree. Considering less the a year later the FFA were throwing money into WSW. Obviously that's more financially viable. But with the correct direction I feel NQF will be a success.

did i hear the a league commentary panel say Auckland were trying to gather momentum to put a team back in the A-League in a few years? would love a 12 team comp, play each other twice and add the FFA cup.

I wonder how the AFC will like the HAL getting another team from outside the federation. I really feel we need to worry more about what makes them happy over what NZ wants.

Yes and they also spoke about jero diving on sigmund over a year ago despite sigmund being found guilty of the foul, don't listen to a lot the kiwis say

Far out they were biased! At points there were too busy discussing what going on with the Nix off the field to talk about the game going on in front of them!

Aye, they're the worst.

Although to their credit they cast doubt on the penalty on Saturday, which was neither stonewall nor a blatant error.

I thought it was a penalty so I guess they are forgiven!

I felt a little bad laughing at the Sam, Santo and Ed piss take at the Kiwi commentators. Now I don't!

I wonder if Wellington fans hate them as much as the rest of the league's supporters

but on topic, I doubt the FFA are keen to bring in an extra NZ team when the future of our one team is already in doubt.

Hey! That's not on topic either! 8)

Yeah unless the Kiwi's are the ones putting all the money up I don't think the FFA should bother with another kiwi side.
