A-League 2013-14 match thread
Multipurpose thread for discussing the games that don't feature the mighty Reds this season.
Last night 2-0 Sydney, both teams looked very rusty & lacking imagination but one team featured Alessandro del Piero & Nicky Carle, who were pretty much the difference.
Oh and Zenon Caravella was at fault for both goals Newcastle conceded.
Burnsy had a few decent moments in his return to the league but clearly needs more game time to get into the zone.
Football's back - and great to see on SBS!

Re: A-League 2013-14 match thread
Neither side were that great to watch IMO.
cannot stand GVE and hearing him whinge on the sidelines all the time.
It was clear both sides were trying to play a more technical game, SFC had a few slick triangles going and nicky carle playing as a DM i think is going to work.
I watched SBS for the pre game and half time show, they tend to cater for for the avid football fan as opposed to fox who try to make it simple and watchable for all involved.
i switch over to Fox during the match as both commentators are the same just Foxtel is in real HD ( not this crappy free to air HD ) and it makes a huge difference in picture quality

Completely agree shin - SBS will work out the kinks in time.
What did everyone make of Mel's replacement?
Tara was far too agreeable and kept saying "yeah" and "totally" and "100 percent".
Come back Mel

So Flores back playing in a true number 10 position looks a little scary. WSW and CCM the best teams I've seen so far. Victory looked average and still full of hacks, and Heart played good counterattack (Ramsay showed us why we got rid of him).
Re: A-League 2013-14 match thread
WSW look like the team to beat. CCM didn't look as good as they did last year.
Heart were average - Hoffman at RB

Thought both WSW and Mariners looked good... WSW perhaps lacking a little bit from last season (but Juric helps their forward line!)
Flores was class for CCM.
Here's hoping this little bit of Muscatism from Contreras gets given the once-over by the MRP:
.. especially as we've got a player rubbed out for kicking the ball away FFS

That is a straight red to me so if the review panel take themselves seriously there should be some kind of ban.

The 'Nix looked like they played a good game of football despite being down 7 players (5 of whom where on international duty).
They could be a real handful this year.

I suspect it'll be the same old story from the Nux. Almost unbeatable at home but woeful on the road. The 'Nix looked like they played a good game of football despite being down 7 players (5 of whom where on international duty).

MRP: Pablo Contreras rubbed out for 2!

I think that's fair.
We're both without a starting CB now.

Re: A-League 2013-14 match thread
Brisbane 3-0 Sydney at half time.
Team to beat after 2 rounds.
Sydney to be cellar dwellers again this year it seems.

Looks great doesn't it!
Phoenix aren't playing too bad either! I'm impressed considering I thought they'd be bottom this year.
