Police uncover alleged soccer match-fixing ring in VPL

Postby Interloper Sun Sep 15, 2013 5:12 pm

Victorian police have smashed an alleged multi-million-dollar international match-fixing ring involving a Victorian Premier League (VPL) football team.

Police have arrested 10 people associated with the Southern Stars Football Club after executing search warrants across Melbourne.

The 10 people arrested include nine players and the head coach of the club, which plays in the state-based competition.

...

The Purana Taskforce and Sporting Integrity Intelligence Unit began the investigation in August after a tip-off from Football Federation Australia (FFA).
Excellent to see the FFA on the front foot here.

I dont think betting should be allowed in semi professional sporting leagues in Australia.

The lure of money for players who are working fulltime and playing on the weekend would be far to great.

A massive positive that is not really being picked up on in the media that it was actually the FFA who tipped of the police
Ppl who slap the label of truth on the 1st thing they hear, do it out of ignorance, convenience or cant be bothered picking through a thin layer of falsehood to find the real truth, or possibly even another lie
The voice in our head is the final judge

I think the term 'self reporting' has lost its weight since the VFL....sorry AFL used it with the Essendon saga.
