Gallop calls on NSW government to upgrade Parramatta Stadium

UNPARALLELED support and demand for tickets to Western Sydney Wanderers games has prompted FFA boss David Gallop to petition the state government to build a new stadium for the A-League leaders.

Gallop has already met with sports minister Graham Annesley to discuss a purpose-built Wanderers stadium or expansion to their home ground, Parramatta Stadium

I'm loving the ambition here, why not ride the wave! It reminds me again of the early AU days when there was a big call for AU to either expand Hindmarsh or build their own. I feel if the government can come to an agreement it will just add to the excitement for the Wanders and stamp their place as a serious player in Australian sport.

I think FFA will find some very rich financial backing for WSW and would not surprise me if they actually built their own stadium. Lets face it WSW are a very attractive opportunity for any potential owner particularly those who already own overseas clubs.

Wage bills are already paid for, very strong fan support and strong chance of future profits plus easy access to promising youth coming through the ranks.

That's true but the beauty of West Sydney's situation is they are surrounded by Rugby sides and could go into partnership with one of them to reduce the costs of the stadium build or rebuild.
It also means the stadium would get used 12 months of the year making it a far more cost effective operation.

That's the amazing thing about West Sydney. There really seems to be a real push of community support there. They are much much more different to Adelaide.

Best case scenario would be that a rich as billionaire consortium comes in buys the Wanders and builds a stadium of their own. The club will be unstoppable with a stadium of their own.

i personally wouldn't want to see a rugby side sharing the pitch.
it kills the turf when the seasons cross over. would rather wanderland just be for wsw

That would be great but then you're talking about the club having to find funding for around $250m for a new stadium of their own. Parramatta upgrade would be lucky to be over $100m and that cost would be split between the football and rugby side of things.

That would be fantastic but I don't think any NRL clubs are desperately looking for a stadium to play at.
