Heard a rumour that the HAL may be getting their automatic spot back.
Not sure if it means we'll be back at 2.5 still early days but good news!

Re: ACL spots
So, one spot for winner of the League, one for winner of the Cup (I assume FFA cup rather than the A-League grand final) and half a spot for the league runner-up? That would be the best system IMO
All I need is some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine.

Re: ACL spots
I think the FFA cup will be the season after next. It will start in the winter of 2014.So, one spot for winner of the League, one for winner of the Cup (I assume FFA cup rather than the A-League grand final) and half a spot for the league runner-up? That would be the best system IMO
I expect this extra spot is a reward for FFA getting their act together to organise this finally.

Re: ACL spots
CCM could drop out of next years ACL?
"Mr Charlesworth said there was also a chance the Mariners would not compete in next season’s Asian Champions League due to the cost of doing so and scheduling issues.
He said it costs the Mariners about $300,000 to participate in the ACL, for which the team has to fly out on Monday for a match in Korea on Tuesday night."

Re: ACL spots
sadly it doesnt mean we get that acl spot. It means the spot stays empty.
I would be pissed as a fan, you expect clubs to be ambitious and want to be the best in the country/region/ world
though he is probably just jockeying for some for money from ffa

Re: ACL spots
Hopefully if they make the second round which is looking more likely now they will see a little more prize money come their way and this will convince them not to make such a short sighted decision.

Re: ACL spots
Confirmed that we will have two automatic spots in the 2014 champions league and one qualifying spot. So 2.5 spots.
WSW and CCM automatically and MV as qualifiers.
Will be interesting to see how WSW go. Wonder if they can finish a game with 11 men.

Re: ACL spots
I'm keen to see how CCM go. Were lucky to make it thru to the knock out stage last time. Surely they are learning from these games and next time they will play like they know they can.

Re: ACL spots
http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/lea ... town/80380Victory will be playing their cut-throat Asian Champions League qualifier next February in Geelong. With the AFL at Etihad Stadium, and AAMI Park being rocked by Bruce Springsteen on the same day, Kevin Muscat's team are taking their ACL playoff to Simonds Stadium.
Interesting one! Very keen to see how it pans out. Hopefully they pull a decent crowd and it gives the push for a Geelong HAL club some legs!
With a capacity of 33,500 it would be great if they get more then 10,000. Another part of me hopes that the Tards have woken up to the ACL and take it seriously this time. Although watching them bomb out everytime is highly enjoyable!
Qualifying doesn't start till Feb next year so Indian club Pune play Vietnamese club Hà Nội T&T. The winner of that plays Muangthong United from Thailand and then the winner of that match plays the Tards down at Geelong. Whoever wins that match goes thru to the ACL group stage.

Re: ACL spots
I usually like to see the A-League clubs do well in Asia (as long as no-one else wins it before we do!), but I hope WSW get smashed and learn some humility.Confirmed that we will have two automatic spots in the 2014 champions league and one qualifying spot. So 2.5 spots.

Re: ACL spots
I think everyone seems hell bent on learning the ACL style the hard way. It makes me wonder how we will tackle the ACL the next time we make it? It seems pretty clear that playing a possession based game plan against these far superior K and J league clubs isn't the best option for HAL clubs.
