But anyway lads.
Buckley has left and there is still no new TV deal.

Is this a fail?
Has the game been mugged again?
Well its certainly a fail for Bucks. The TV deal was his baby and his legacy. Couldn't even get that sorted before Franky assed him.

FOOTBALL Federation Australia's new chief executive David Gallop's first major announcement is destined to bring joy to the A-League clubs today.

A-League clubs from next season are destined to have the entire $2.775 million salary cap paid for by the FFA's new TV package meaning clubs should be closer to becoming debt-free entities.

Fantastic news. Lets hope this goes through and HAL clubs have one less thing to worry about financially.

Bang! That way we can stop worrying that the club's about to fold whenever we get a sub-10k crowd.

SBS will broadcast the Qantas Socceroos FIFA World Cup Qualifiers on a one hour delay.
Great for football.

So that's $40m per year for four years. Not too shabby.

I wonder if because SBS will be getting Friday night games, that bigger games will now be on Friday meaning AU get fewer.

:( Friday night games are my fave.

I feel as though the game as now arrived and has found a permanent place in australian sport.

Every team could probably afford a marquee of real value now but hopefully they do not go stupid and try find 3rd party sponsors to help pay the bill.

Fox will have to keep lifting its game to make it worthwhile to subscribe ,even with the online streaming coming in ( though i suspect it will be fox's stream anyway ) .

No more doomsday threads about clubs not paying bills and wondering what clubs will be around next year :D

I know there are probably not many South Aussies that could even tell the difference between Rugby League and Rugby Union, but impressive news that the big upswing we all feel the A-League is currently experiencing is being recognised by interested third parties.
This is a sure sign that football is heading well and truly for the national #3 spot behind AFL and Rugby League if our game isn’t already there:

AS if the ARU didn't have enough problems on its hands with disgruntled five-eighth Quade Cooper, now comes a report that shows viewers are turning off the game in droves. Global sports research agency Repucom International has just finished compiling its 2012 Football Benchmarking Report, which compares figures from Australia's football codes - AFL, NRL, Super Rugby and the A-League - based on OzTAM ratings and AGB Nielsen audience research.

"The A League had a great year in 2011-12, producing the largest increase of all football codes with a 27 per cent increase in cumulative audiences,"While AFL and the A-League were the big winners and the NRL remained steady, it was the alarming dip in fans watching the Super Rugby competition that should have the powerbrokers at ARU headquarters concerned. For those looking nationally(ie 90% ofAFL fans), this is huge news for football!
