Doubt it, he may have the respect of people he has worked with within the FFA for being a good bloke and doing the best he could within the constraints placed on him - but from an outsiders perspective he has been an ineffectual weed.

I think it's kind of odd for someone to be quitting or stepping down, but first I'm going to lock the league into a 4-5 year deal and then I'll leave.
Why not let Gallop broker the TV deal if he is the one who's going to be running the league during this tv deal. I'm sure he wants to leave a legacy, but is Buckley really gonna do what's best for the league?
I would imagine there would be a few quid extra in Buck's farewell pay out if the deal goes throw smoothly. Things that are always in the fine print

main reason buckley was employed was to negotiate a new tv deal, due to his expertise previously with the afl.

Not sure exactly what experience david gallop had with the NRL tv deal over the years.

Plus you cannot just expect someone to manage a multi million tv deal all before a handover and familiarisation has been done

Only read this article properly just now - SBS coverage starts from round 1 this year with a live Sunday fixture.

Thought this was only in effect from 2013/14 so this is a plus.

Is that more or less than the last figure?

Less - was reportedly 40mil per year for 5 years = 200mil. Then they revised to 175mil, now 160 according to the above.

Be lucky to get 100 by the end of it.

I think 4 years is better than 5 - means that the deal can be renegotiated sooner and therefore, could potentially get more money for the 5th year.
