SBS gets the FTA end of the deal, four years!
SBS have reportedly (Herald Sun) signed on to broadcast HAL matches for the next four years, and Socceroos matches for the next five.
However, Fox may force SBS to wait a year as it wants to retrain its 'exclusivity' of HAL matches as per its original deal.

Fox will have to step its aleague coverage up if it expects people to subscribe for the aleague when there is a good FTA option available

Foxtel money + one match (and Socceroos) on FTA + highlights show. This is exactly what I wanted. Plus SBS are going to treat it right..
All I need is some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine.

Good for everybody really. Well done. $40m per year too, more than enough to cover the caps for the clubs.

Sounds great would like some online content included (I guess we'll have to read the fine print) especially online replays of full matches. That would be great!
Time to Djbate!

So that will be an SFC OR Western Sydney game ever other week with a couple of MV games thrown in.
Which will be the only time we (AU) will get on the box

I agree that SBS will treat the game with the respect it deserves, but how much exposure can SBS bring for the league? I thought that was the aim of FTA: exposure.

Exposure comes from a successful product.
United win games = exposure
United defeats main rivals = exposure
United makes finals series = exposure
United wins championship = exposure
United does well in Asia = exposure
United first team on the moon = exposure
Multiple this by all teams in all states and we also multiple the exposure at the base.
If the product delivers week in, week out it's profile will increase.

SBS may not be mainstream but it's on FTA at a peak time and it's live!!
Better than exclusively to Fox.
And Fox sports subscriptions are on the up anyway due to the excellent coverage of the Olympics and now they have all AFL games live and ad free which got a lot on board.
So there will be a bigger viewing base this year just on Fox alone which is great

So less than originally thought.
Still, nothing to sneeze at.

Nothing to sneeze at, but less than should be counted as success. If the rumours are true then Buckley has been a total failure.

I think it's kind of odd for someone to be quitting or stepping down, but first I'm going to lock the league into a 4-5 year deal and then I'll leave.
Why not let Gallop broker the TV deal if he is the one who's going to be running the league during this tv deal. I'm sure he wants to leave a legacy, but is Buckley really gonna do what's best for the league?
