Clubs asking for help from FFA

THE new spirit of co-operation between soccer chiefs and the A-League clubs faces a significant test after Football Federation Australia warned that the clubs' pleas for more resources could not all be afforded.

A wishlist by the clubs was tabled in May, including reducing the cut that FFA takes from transfer fees, for clubs to share in revenue from finals games and for FFA to heavily subsidise the national youth league.

I can't believe that! How can they justify taking a cut of something they did zero to produce? Absolutely shocking! Especially in a transfer like Flores. What possible reason could they have for taking a cut of his fee?

A-League clubs to get a $1.9m dividend independent of the TV deal. They anticipate with the new TV deal that the FFA will be able to cover the $2.8m salary cap of all clubs.

Cockerill speculates the new TV deal will be worth double the previous one. Current deal is $120m over 7 years, so ~$17m per season, that would go up to $34m per season (probably ~$171m over 5 years I'm guessing). A deal like that could really spell stability for the league and perhaps allow for the FFA to help clubs get some good marquees or something.

i just hope with more money the FFA and clubs go and get these big ideas of raising the salary or signing big time marquees in trade for stability.

the salary cap should not go up at all, apart from CPI increase. The salary cap does not guarantee better quality players all it does is gives the same players more money.

It is great news though, it seems right on cue the league has hit that turning point that the MLS did during its initial troubles

I agree. IMO Marquee players should be considered luxury items that the clubs have IF they can afford them. The extra funding should go towards things the clubs need like facilities of their own, investment into projects that create income (such as pubs, clubs and stores) and youth development (the NYL is a must and has to be expanded hopefully to include games in local leagues)
