Australian Premier League

Postby Stuckey Fri May 04, 2012 5:52 am

EXCLUSIVE: Details of a new national second division called the Australian Premier League have been revealed which appears set to bring state league sides into a nationwide competition.

Queensland state league sides have been told their licences will run out at the end of the season ahead of the launch of the new league, set up by the FFA to complement the A-League.

Wow the future is here!
Sounds great! Except for the name. Just have it as the B-league or A2 something so its clear to everyone. Like in Adelaide Super, Premier, State. Which is the top division?! I know its the Super League but anyone who doesn't follow it closely wouldn't have a clue.

Yeah would be great if it works, get some on tv perhaps, grow the clubs. Doubt we'd see a promotion and relegation system for a long time tho.

It will be complicated however probably cheaper in so far the costs will be effectively limited to flights and accommodation. I wonder how it will work? There are a lot of clubs out there.

If this is all true i dont think it would be your conventional season.

Imo it will be either..
-A cup starting off with a group stage
-An eastern states league

But then again... It supposedly only costs 400k a season to run a Wleague side, so it may be possible but it would have to be a semi professional league with no frills

The A League is struggling, so lets introduce another league!
Where's the money going to come from?

As these clubs are already paying for wages, grounds and administration under existing budgets the extra costs would be primarily associated with travel.

EXCLUSIVE: Football Federation Australia has revealed new details about the Australian Premier League to start next season - and revealed its clubs will be seeded in the latter stages of the FFA Cup.

The FFA confirmed the APL competition will also culminate in a series of playoffs between each division’s champion club, with the format yet to be determined.

At least two states have declared their intention to operate two divisions under the APL banner, opening the way for traditional promotion and relegation battles.

Sounds great! I would love to see HAL NYL sides included as well give the kids more meaningful gametime is important.
I wonder who from SA would be included? Adelaide City for sure, maybe Metrostars, Blue Eagles?
